Hello. My name is Aleksey Tanana
as known as Alazanman. Today I want
to develop a theme of improvisation for those who play a real instruments
In first example
I used three midi devices and synth as a harmony generator
As you see, we need only one midi note, which triggers generating
of random harmony. Here you can see the chain.
The first midi-effect "Random" generates Random deviation from trigger-note.
The second midi-effect "Chord" produces
what it's called: chord, depending on defined shift for each
added note. Because it produces chords of the same type
(major in this case), we should use the third midi-effect
"Scale", which adapts incoming notes to the appropriate scale.
And synth generates sound. Let's check how it works.
of course
you can tweak type of chord, key...
If you wish you can
add drums...
if you want to make progression
which includes some specific chords or voicings, this approach
may fit your needs better. Here are six chords
in the key of C major which I would like to use
Each clip contains three notes of the exact chord
in third octave and tonic
in the bass in the first octave
In effects chain I used
instrument rack to create multilayered
sound of harmony. As you can see
the low part of the range is used by bass
and high by pads. The trick
is in using 'Follow modes' in Launch box
of every clip. Here I have defined two chances of playing the same
clip again and one chance of playing
one of other clips from this group. Let's check it out.
This is a simple example, where chord changes are random.
but you can implement something like that
or even like that.
That's what I have currently explored
on this topic in the context of Ableton Live.
Thanks for watching. Happy improvisation!
