I was at work, my son was home.
He called me about two o’clock and
said you need to come home. The
water’s coming in. You can see where
it had gotten in to the downstairs level.
Got in the garage, 19 inches in the house.
That was Tuesday. Wednesday we were
able to get back into the house and
start cleaning and tearing out and it
was just a mess. My parents are here.
My sister’s here. They heard I had trouble
and everybody just came. Whole house
is empty. It’s all sitting in the trailer out there.
We heard on Thursday that the President
approved it as a disaster. So Friday morning
I was on there at 7:30 a.m. applying, doing
the online application. Friday afternoon I got
a call from the FEMA inspector wanting to
know if she could meet us out here on
Saturday. She came Saturday, she was out here,
did the walk through. The money was in the
bank the following Tuesday, direct deposit,
so that was a pleasant surprise. She came
out and did the walk through and she checked
things off, looked around the house. Got to
work, checked online at my bank account
and thought wow. I was expecting my little
bit of money and my FEMA money was there.
So that gave me some peace, you know,
knowing there was going to be some help.
I was just thankful for it. With a lot of help
and a lot of friends that have the know-how,
it’s gonna work.
