When you educate a young girl, you start a cycle of opportunity where there
could be a cycle of despair, and the benefits just return and run and continue by that very
act of giving a girl who might have gone through life uneducated, an education that allows
them to strengthen their lives, their children, their family, their community. Um, one thing
I always say, is that perhaps one of the reasons people have never focused this much on the
importance of girls education, is that there's never that single moment where a CNN camera
is going to find that girl who is dying in front of your eyes because she didn't have
an education, but make no mistake about it, girls dies every day because of lack of education.
We know that the children of women who are educated are far less likely to die at childbirth,
far less likely to die before the age of 5. We know that women who make it to secondary
school are dramatically less likely to die of contracting AIDS, so, we know, that in
fact, girls education is a life or death issue.
