Now we get to create the sweet pleated paper
that's along the bottom of the card. I'm
going to use the 11 inch by 3/8-inch
piece of striped paper
and I want to create 1/2-inch pleats, so I'll
divide that number in half; for the second number which is
one-quarter inch. I'll score the first line
a half inch from the end of the striped paper
and the next one a quarter inch from the first.
I will repeat along the length of this strip, alternating
between one-half and one-quarter inch.
Using a bone folder to score lines will
help me make precise and crisp folds.
Fold the scored strip
back and forth along the scored lines; and,
since we scored those with our bone folder,
they're going to fold nice and crisply for us.
Do this along the whole length,
creating your pleats. Once you have
your pleats folded, you can go over them
with the edge of your bone folder to sharpen
the crease. I already applied adhesive
to my card right where I would like this pleated
paper to be. And then I'm just going to
lay the pleated paper over the top of the adhesive.
Make sure I have that lined up the way I would
like it and press to adhere.
The backs will adhere but then the fronts will
remain loose, so that you can see
the nice pleats. Your last
flap will not be adhered,
so you will need to put some adhesive behind
that to hold that down and then you can
trim the edge off.
