>>Aimee: Hi I'm Aimee Kent and I'm an assistant fashion tutor on the eco chic fashion freak
upcycled fashion programme, which is run by Impact Arts.
I teach young people how to upcycle clothes, help them develop their design skills
and help them to develop as a person,
and try to enable them, to have a better future. Get them into future employment or into college
or university.
The most valuable qualities you could have for working in this position
would be that you're caring.
I'd say that's the most important quality that you could have
because you're working with young people,
some of them are quite vulnerable and it's all about building a better future for them.
You also have to be quite self-motivated and have good organisational skills, because you're
having to think on youre feet a lot
and constantly come up with new ideas and think of
new exciting things you can do with the children.
It's really encouraging to see them develop their skills, and to see them actually get
into college and get in to university afterwards.
We've already got a girl who has just found out she's got into college and
it's just an amazing feeling to know that you've helped.
It has been quite challenging, I feel now that I've learned to cope with what can be
quite emotionally challenging situations.
But I suppose sometimes being thrown in at the deep end can be the best way forward.
I work four days a week and they are a very flexible company. It allows me to work on
my business plan for my design business that I'm setting up myself.
During Art School I took part in a programme called Creative Goals which involved working
with school children, teaching them art and design skills.
So that kind of gave me the experience of working with young people which is what I
needed for this position.
It's better to have, to say on your cv that you've done things rather than
talk about what you'd like to do,
so that's the best advice I can give, just to gain as much experience as you can basically.
