Overpopulation. Health epidemics. Natural resource scarcity. Ethnic unrest and religious
tension. Terrorism. Drug-trafficking and sex slavery. Cyberwar. Nuclear, biological, radiological
weapons proliferation. Global political and economic corruption. These are just some of
the pressing issues facing the United States and the world today. The hope, optimism, and
promise of the 1990's have given way to a 21st century where we face both old and new
dangers with no easy and obvious answers in sight. More disturbingly, we move forward
to face these dangers at a time when the national defense and intelligence community is aging
and retiring without any clear, specialized, and intensive channels being developed to
replenish the ranks. Thus, developing future national security and intelligence professionals
has never been a more crucial need. The International Security and Intelligence Studies program
at Bellevue University is designed to establish that diverse, integrated, and unique pipeline
for the promotion of such talent. Make no mistake, this is a unique program, offering
a unique opportunities. For decades, the study of intelligence has been a problematic and
controversial endeavor in universities all across America. Some of the more sorted rumors
and associations, students, and faculty have connected to intelligence have caused many
universities to simply steer clear of the issue altogether. As a result, America, at
a time when it needs formal intelligence degrees more, finds itself horribly unprepared and
lacking. Into this gap steps Bellevue University with the ISIS program. You will find yourself
exposed to some of the most unique and relevant courses. Utilizing the most advanced technological
methods for instructional delivery, and tasking you with assignments that are identified by
the intelligence community itself as current, essential, and pertinent to anyone interested
in a long-term career protecting American interests and aiding in global security. This
program was developed and designed specifically for students motivated and passionate about
serving their country, about fighting the evils that disrupt and endanger the global
community. As such, unlike most of the traditional programs you might find around the country,
in the ISIS program you will be assessed and charged with developing critical skills that
are immediately needed by the intelligence community. This is not an esoteric degree,
pursuing purely philosophical exercises. On the contrary, our goal at Bellevue University
has always been to provide the most demanding academic material through assessments that
truly prepare you for a career connected to your actual degree. We've consulted and researched
the multiple agencies and departments that make up the intelligence community to understand
what skills and knowledge best positions a student for the future. You will be tested
in all of your courses with case studies, scenario simulations, briefing reports, and
role plays. You will understand the theoretical, policy, and practical applications of all
that you study. For example, you will experience what it is like to do the President's daily
national security brief or consider the logic behind the leader of a radical Islamic group
as he formulates a new economic strategy to undermine a major middle-eastern state. You
will analyze our policy to prepare for a biological or nuclear attack against civilian targets,
or track the complex financial flows that cross the globe and fund terrorist actions,
drug running, and sex slavery rings. We expose you to every scenario, issue, and point of
relevance a future intelligence analyst may be charged with tackling. Every step of the
way in the ISIS program, we develop your analytical writing and critical thinking skills. You
learn how to conduct original, intensive research and be comfortable and compelling in presenting
that information in a public forum. We do not want your degree to be only relevant on
the paper you use to print your CV. We made this program to give you a degree that will
be instantly applicable to your future. The degree delivers a nuanced understanding of
the emerging national security intelligence field that is broad, deep, and total. This
involves being proficient with the key concepts, functions, and operations of the national/international
security infrastructure. Being agile with complex global interrelationships. Subtly
comprehending the evolution and transformation of the international threat environment. Cogently
synthesizing conflict/peace theory with national security policy and practical intelligence
applications. And finally, it involves fluently assessing regional cultures and the threat
environment particular to those regions. ISIS graduates will exemplify adaptive, intuitive,
and innovative learning. The depth and breadth of their expertise will uniquely position
them to excel in a career within the intelligence community. Where does that depth and breadth
come from? First and foremost, it comes from your courses. All of which are a product of
painstaking research on some of the best programs around the world and also direct consultation
from the intelligence community. These courses were developed and designed to create a program
that is unmatched. Not unmatched in comparison with other online programs, mind you. But
unmatched with other programs, period. For those of you who may not know much about Bellevue
University, I want you to understand the benefit in coming to us. It is true that we've been
leaders in online education for nearly two decades. We were thinking about online delivery
before it ever became the hot buzzword it is today. That experience is of direct importance
to you and your degree. At Bellevue, you will not be exposed to face-to-face, residential
courses that were simply shoved, awkwardly, into an online template; something that you
know runs rampant across the country if you have tried taking online courses with other
universities. In stead, you will be exposed at Bellevue to online courses that normally
make very high demands on your effort and participation. You will be surprised at just
how much access and interaction you have with your professors. There is no sense of teaching
yourself at Bellevue. And there is no escape from being active and interactive with your
peers. Teaching will always be the sacred mission we hold most high. And do not be fooled,
though many around the country like to claim the old traditional method of being the "Sage
on the Stage" is the only real way for a student to learn, this is simply false; egregiously
so. The technology, tools, and methods we have developed for delivering courses to you
far exceed what is possible in a traditional classroom. And I say this to you with humility,
for I was absolutely once that "Sage on the Stage", convinced that it was my personal
presence in front of you in the classroom that made your educational experience worthwhile.
But, what we do today with your online courses is simply superior to the old ways. There
can be no refuting progress. Being a not-for-profit institution that wants to help not only the
traditional-aged student, but also the adult learner, has presented us, over time, with
challenges from a public perspective. It is true, with Bellevue you absolutely get the
access, flexibility, and freedom you need in an online program. But what you also get
at Bellevue, and is hard to find in any other institutions that claim to specialize in this
educational method, is the rigor, high expectations, difficulty, and challenge that usually are
associated with only the finest of traditional colleges. Take the best you can think of when
considering a traditional, residential institution, and the best you can imagine from an online
university, combine the two together and that is the special niche where you will find Bellevue.
All roads led to Rome until they did not. The sun never set on the British empire until
it did not. "Pax Americana", American peace will last forever, until it does not. As a
recent op-ed in the Wall Street Journal stated, "Our civilization is not indestructible. It
needs to be actively defended." Come to Bellevue University. Join the ISIS program. And be
part of the effort that aims to fill some of the gaping needs we will have in the intelligence
community in the very near future. Be part of that first line of defense and understanding.
Be part of a cutting-edge program at a cutting-edge university that will always put you and your
education as its first priority. This video began with a Latin phrase: "Amat Victoria
Curam" It is our creed here in the ISIS program. And it simply means that victory comes only
to those who take pains. International security and intelligence studies is a difficult, and
crucially important, emerging discipline. While it matters here in the ivory tower,
it matters so much more out there; all over the world. We have never been less safe. We
have never needed more specialists supremely motivated to fight those dangers. With programs
like ISIS, with universities like Bellevue, and with participants like you, victory will
come. Even though it will undoubtedly be a hard fought victory. But I hope that you will
agree with me that these are the victories that always mean the most and that this will
be the career that makes you the most fulfilled. Come join us and learn just how true that
statement is.
