I love drag races, we all love drag races. This one is going to be quite an
interesting one, because that there is my long-term XKR-S convertible,
which has a supercharged 5-litre V8 with just under 550 horsepower. This
however is the XCS 427 Cobra Replica. It costs not a lot less than the
Jaguar and it has a little bit more power, but it weighs just under a ton.
It should be an absolute walkover for the Cobra, but I don't know. It might
have a bit of a traction problem, so let's see.
The Jaguar is just a tiny, little black dot in the mirror. This thing is
nutcase fast. The Jaguar gets to 100 in about 9 seconds, and this has just
totally destroyed it. Lightning, what a car. That is serious performance.
It's got really good traction as well.
I just got a little bit of wheelspin in first, well, quite a lot of wheelspin
in first, but they reckon that this should have over 600 horsepower
if it's really, really fit. Today, they reckon it's only got 550 today
because they don't reckon the supercharger is boosting just as much as it
should do, but it doesn't feel very undernourished to me.
We're going to do exactly the same thing, but this time, I'm going to give
Matt and my Jaguar a 2-second head start. This is one of the maddest cars
I've ever driven. It's completely loopy and it's completely fantastic. What
on earth does this feel like when it's got the full 600+ horsepower? What a
monster, what a weapon. I've always thought, "Yeah, they just look
fantastic, these Cobra replicas, but do they really go properly?" The
answer is yes, they flipping-well do go properly. This one goes like the
wind. Just listen. I want one of these really badly.
