I started playing the violin in
fourth-grade public school music program
the reason i started was that my brother played the violin the year before
and he wouldn't let me touch his (violin) i had to have one of my own
so it was purely sibling rivalry
and as far as knowing that
this is what i wanted to do ...
very first professional orchestra concert that i saw was
milwaukee symphony in my hometown
and Kenneth Schermerhorn conducting
and they did firebird
and i was just
i was so mesmerized and it's just something clicked
i knew
that i had to find an orchestra
that thread that Kenneth Schermerhorn wove through my life
really amazing uh... i'd never thought
when i first saw that concert that um... i would be working with him for fifteen
years may end up working in this beautiful facility
when i was growing up in wisconsin he was rockstar
it just as is amazing and this facility
makes it so much easier for us to do our job
in the way that we want to do it
because we all want to
perform to the best of our abilities and this facility makes it so easy
I hope that
in the future
the Nashville Smphony will be
well supported by the community.. as it seems to be now
i would love to see everybody feel that
come to the symphony and not it that it's not just for rich people because
i certainly wasn't rich growing up i grew up with polka music so
if there's anybody
that wasn't part of what people think
is the typical symphony goer - that was me
i would love for people to realize that this is the type of music that can be for anybody.
