Signing up for Facebook is easy. All you need is a valid email address.
So to sign up for Facebook just open your web browser.
You can use any web browser and just navigate to www.Facebook.com.
This is the home screen here. If you already have an account, this is where
you'll come to login. You'll just enter your Email address and your
Password and click Login, but to create a new Facebook account, we'll go
down to this section where it says Sign Up. So enter your First Name and Last Name and
this should be your real name, because this is the name people will use when
they try to find you. Then enter a valid Email address and this
is the email address where all of your notifications about Facebook in your account
confirmation are going to come. So, make sure that this is an email address
that you can check easily and then enter a password.
It needs to be at least 6 letters long and it's probably best not to use the
same password you use for email or other web applications or choose a unique
password, and if you add numbers or symbols that will help make it more secure.
Then choose your gender and then choose your Birthday.
The reason that Facebook asks for your birthday is that there are certain
restrictions for people under a certain age. They want to make sure they are showing you
age-appropriate content. So, that's why it asks for your birthday.
So then you're going to click Sign Up. Your browser may ask you if you want to remember
your password. I'm going to click Remember.
When you click Remember, it means that the browser will remember your password.
When you login it will show it as little dots or asterisks and so you won't
have to enter it again. Now, if you're using somebody else's computer
or a shared computer, you probably don't want your browser to remember your password.
But if it's your personal computer and you're really the only one who uses it,
then having your browser remember your password is handy.
But again, if it's not your computer, if you share it when that message comes up,
you should click Not Now or Never. Then you've to get pass the Security Check
to make sure you're a real person and not a computer.
So enter the text you see here. These are usually real words, but they are
in squiggly text. If you don't get it right, you might have
to enter another phrase and I've passed the Security Check.
So, the next you'll see is a wizard Step 1, 2, and 3 that will walk you
through the steps of Finding your Friends, setting up your Profile and adding a Profile
Picture. This course is going to cover how to do all
of those things in separate movies. We have a movie about Finding Friends, a movie
about setting up your Profile Information and a movie about setting up your
Profile Picture. So I'm not going to use this wizard to do,
instead I'm going to click Skip this set. I'll Skip the step for Step 2 and for
Step 3, because I just want to get into Facebook. So, I'm in Facebook.
Now I see a message up here, Your account has not been confirmed.
So, after you sign up for Facebook, you need to open your email and then click
on a confirmation link. I'll show you what that looks like.
So here's my email. I see I have a Welcome to Facebook message
and it has some links here where I can start finding friends and uploading a
photo. But this isn't the confirmation email.
So, I'll go back to my Inbox and I've just received my Facebook
account confirmation email. The word Facebook Account Confirmation will
be in the subject. So I'll open this up and it says Please confirm
your Facebook account by clicking this link and I get a message that
my Account has been Confirmed. So, congratulations!
You just signed up for Facebook and now we're ready to start editing
your profile.
