So I'm Lydia Loren and I on the faculty here at Lewis & Clark
I've been here since 1996, and I love it here, it's really a
great place to be a faculty member, in part because the faculty's
a really special collection of really smart people who care
a lot about their job and I decided to do this series of, I don't
know if you want to call it "Coffee chat with Lydia" to introduce
you to some of our faculty, so let's go meet somebody.
This is Melissa Powers' office, we're going to see if she's available.
She's a bike rider.
Hey Melissa, how are you doing!
Hey Lydia
Hey look there's your bike!
What are you doing?
I'm prepping for tomorrow.
Ahhh...so I'm here because I'm going to do those short little
videos I told you about.
Oh right good.
So you told me about a chapter of a book that you finished
off that you had a deadline last week. DId you get that done?
I did, yeah.
Tell me about it!
It's about renewable energy, especially small scale renewable energy
distributed generation. And the article's looking at the best way's
to incentivize small scale localized renewable energy would be.
Cool! That's a very interesting topic.
Thanks.
How'd you get involved in that project?
Well you know I teach energy law here and most of our students
are really interested in renewables and large scale renewables are
a big deal here in Oregon, but small scale have not been as much of one
so I just started getting interested in what's been happening
in the small scale renewable world.
Interesting! So where's the book getting published? It's a chapter, right?
So yeah, well actually what it is is it's part of a broader energy law text
a couple colleagues and I are working on, so we're hoping it'll come out next year.
Good well listen I don't want to take too much of your time so I'll let you get back to prepping...
Thanks.
Okay so you met Melissa, Melissa's pretty awesome
she won the Levenson award just this past year which is the
award that the graduating class gets to decide who they want to vote
as the best teacher. Each year the class votes on that and
believe you me everyone wants to win the Levenson. So
Melissa was our Levenson winner last year. She's great.
So I hope you liked meeting Melissa!
