Eric Lallez, winegrower, Château des Tourtes, chair of the appellation's Production Commission: The white wines of Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux are fruity and very aromatic,
mostly made from Sauvignon Blanc,
sometimes with a bit of Muscadelle or Semillon to give a bit more complexity.
Patrick Penaud, winegrower, Château Bois Vert: They're very rich, very aromatic.
We have superb potential in the white wines.
Eric Lallez: We have very fruity wines, very aromatic, lively
and with substance on the palate,
so I'm pretty sure people will like them.
Patrick Penaud: The red wines of the Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux appellation are mostly made from Merlot,
with some Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Eric Lallez: More and more winegrowers are planting Malbec or Petit Verdot
to give a bit more freshness of flavour to Blaye wines.
Patrick Penaud: The reds will keep on average, I would say... in five to ten years
there will be great pleasure to be had in a Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux 2012.
They have lots of fruit so they will be very pleasant to drink.
Eric Lallez: We tend to have fruit-driven wines, it's a feature of the appellation,
but with a good tannic structure nevertheless, with round and well-integrated tannins.
Paul Godard de Beaufort, oenologist, Oenocentres Blayais: Here we give priority above all to prevention.
So we accompany the winegrower throughout the winemaking process, including in the vineyard,
so as to ensure that the grapes are as ripe and as healthy as possible at harvest time.
Patrick Penaud: The 2012 vintage is untypical, quite particular.
The weather in spring was very difficult, very wet and cold.
Eric Lallez: Yes, it'll be a good vintage.
Low yields, generally, but that means quality.
Patrick Penaud: On the fruit, very elegant, very refined flavours.
Paul Godard de Beaufort: The 2012 vintage, in a nutshell, the wines will be rich,
they'll be fruit-driven, nicely supple, accessible, wines for pleasure.
