Hi! I'm Gary for Expert Village. Some different types of supplies that you can get would be
first of all different size needles for the different types of books that you are doing
and also the quality of the thread; different types of threads. These are all different
things that you would get. Also instead of using a home drill, they have certain book
binding drills which are more hand held models. Some are electric that actually also work
as a drill bit but other ones are just kind of push hard very thick kind of needle, sharp
object through pages. It is usually used for obviously more thin books or different types
of pamphlets and brochures. Not very heavy books but it is type of book binding drill
that is very easy to use and you don't have to have a big heavy duty drill and you can
use like a home drill. If the front cover is off your book, you want to replace it or
if you have a soft cover book and you want to put a hard cover on it, you can buy this
material; this heavy cardboard type of material to act as a cover for the book. Obviously
it won't have a graphic. It will just be a plain brown board. It's called the binder's
board but it is the same exact material and what you would do is cut it to the size of
the book and you would place it on top of the pages. Basically as if it were the actual
original cover of the book and when you drill your holes, you would drill through that board
and then you would string it up just as if it were attached. Then what you would obviously
do is put the tape along the whole sides because you are not going to have anything going down
the middle. You are only going to have a board on one side and a board on the other side.
So you would want to put tape all the way down and that would give it a nice clean look
and you won't even be able to tell there was never a back on the book. You will really
look like a total replacement. That is basically all you would really need to get started in
book binding either for home or semi professional kind of work.
