Here we can see an image of your urinary system.
Here are your kidney's.
Here are your ureters.
Here is your bladder.
Here is your urethra.
Here is your digestive system.
You can see here how the urinary and
digestive systems are anatomically positioned.
A section of your small bowel (ileum)
will be cut out along with it's blood supply
and used to create a reservoir.
The remainder of your small bowel will be rejoined.
It is this reservoir, known as an ideal conduit,
through which your urine will eventually flow.
The surgeon will then connect the ureter's
into the removed piece of small bowel.
This section of small bowel will now be used
to create the stoma.
The surgeon will then remove your bladder.
Your stoma care nurse will be able to discuss the operation
and care of your stoma with you in far more detail.
