JOHN CARSTARPHEN: Hi. This is John Carstarphen for Expert Village. This is a planet texture
map that I purchased from a texture map company and we have the map set in the color channel
of the materials. I'm going to add a bump map to this and a bump map is simply a grayscale
version of the color map and it allows you to add depth in the sense of roughness to
the surface of the color map. So I'm going to add the bump map, take it--take the default
settings 20% and close that, and the way to get to the material settings menu of course
is to just double click on the icon, but for now we're going to take this planet map and
add it to the sphere, we're going to change the projection of the sphere to spherical
and you can see the map appearing on the surface of the planet. Now we want our ship to have
sort of a metallic look, a gold metallic look so double click on that and you can see that
we have a brownish color in the color channel, we have reflection selected, there's a quite
a bit of reflection in this one and we have specular, some specular highlights on the
material. So we'll drag that and drop it onto the ship, select OK, and all I have to do
is add this once to the parent object and all the children objects take on the influence
of this texture map. So now let's go to the editor camera, move in a little closer to
our ship so we can see the effect of our mapping, and you can see that the ship has a nice metallic
sheen to it and, of course, the planet looks great with that texture map on it.
