>> DR PETERSON: No, it was 13 by 8.
>> DR PETERSON: Yeah, and there were 8 of these screws.
>> DR PETERSON: And what happened was, this
thing was on tension. It was stretched out and it was shrinking and it was pulling on the screws.
So the screws pulling on your tissue and this thing shrinking was what was
causing all your pain. Its not nerve entrapment, its this thing tugging. Ok? Its all
its all gone now. And then when I removed it, there was no hernia.
>> PAULA: Wow! >> JP: So, eight screws of those?
>> DR PETERSON: Yup. >> JP: And those go into bone and hmm...
>> DR PETERSON: Yeah, and and into fascia, and they are very painful.
[pause] >> PAULA: And the, uhhh, yellow thing,is tissue?
>> DR PETERSON: The yellow stuff is fat.
>> JP: Uh, and, its kind of folded, so that's the same shrinkage process that goes to...
>> DR PETERSON: Correct, yeah. It’s supposed to be flat, but they never stay flat.
>>See how its folded here? >> JP: Yeah
>> DR PETERSON: So, it it, shrunk and it started to shribble up. And while its doing that, its pulling
on the anchors, because those things are trying to hold it flat, and it shrinks and pulls.
And that is why you didn't have pain the first couple of months after surgery but then
3 or 4 months after surgery you started having pain, because this thing was in there, contracting
like that [pause]
>> DR PETERSON: Ok?
>> JP: So, that's why we hate these, mesh ideas...
>> DR PETERSON: Well, I've got bottles of it, all over the place
>> JP: They claim its 2%, I bet its more than that.
>> DR PETERSON: Its more than that, I've seen
literature that's saying that it is 20%, it is 20%, yeah.
>> JP: Then its just a bad idea. >> DR PETERSON: Well... my, my belief is:
>>patients should be warned, and patients should be told there's an alternative.
>>And its going to be up to the FDA to make that a law.
>>You know they do that for a lot of things and they should do it for this.
>>Because if you were told there was a 20% chance of this happening,
>>and if you had been told that there was an alternative,
>>you would have never done that, right?
>>PAULA: Um hmm
>>DR PETERSON: And that was six operations ago, right? >> PAULA: Yeah
>>DR PETERSON: And by the way I'm working on that
trying to get the FDA to make some rules about that >>Me and a few other people
>> JP: Yeah, we've seen forums about it and people trying to push it forward
>> DR PETERSON: So, if you ever needs this I have it. OK?
>> JP: Yeah, we might want it, yeah, in the future... like, ship it or something.
We'll frame it and put it on the wall. [laughs]
