In the middle of 2010 we three sat together
and laid the grounds for an animation film project
which we would like to introduce to you.
On some beautiful summer days we created
the short story of an urban misadventurer
whose seemingly safe life is exposed as an illusionary world
and eventually takes a drastic turn in a cascade of surreal nightmares.
The ideal basis for uncounted visual tricks and adventurous imagery
which we wanted to bring to life
with traditional animation and the means of modern computer technology.
In the following weeks, a detailed storyboard was developed from the first sketches
and soon the main production process could begin.
After our experiences with previous animation movies we determined
that this one should not be realized on paper
but digitally, with help of graphic tablets and special software.
This spares us laborous scanning and extracting of the drawings
and also avoids a lot of paper waste.
However, the rendering of high resolution image compositions
and e visual effects brought our computers to their limits.
In addition, video and graphics software requires much display space
and therefore calls for at least two monitors for an unobstructed work flow.
For being able to accomplish the needed work in due time
and to assure the further progress of the project
we decided to invest into more powerful computer hardware.
To take this big hurdle
we had to pool about 4,000 € for equipment.
Work went on tirelessly - drawing, clicking, shifting.
By now we have put more then 2,300 working hours into this movie.
Until it is finished, plenty more will add to that.
With a duration of about twelve minutes
we count almost 10,000 uniqe drawn images.
Most of them have to go through several steps of processing -
an inconceivable effort.
After almost two years the movie became a full time job for us.
Unpaid, of course.
At the same time we all try to finish our degrees.
Hence our capacities are limited.
Due to the immense amount of work
we already hired two paid contributors for less complex graphical tasks.
We will pay them up to 1,500 € in total.
On top of the visual part, of which about 80% are completed,
sounds and music as prominent parts of presentation are still missing.
For this purpose we are already negotioating with a composer and sound designer
and a fee of about 1,500 € is expected.
To finish the movie as planned around summer 2012
there is much to be done.
We need your help for this.
Since our financial resources are almost exhausted
we are depending on your support.
For without accessory funding it becomes incredibly hard
to take the last steps to completion and publishing.
We ask you to support us with two thirds of our pending expenses,
that is 2,000 €.
We thought of something really special as a reward:
Donors of the five top contributions are offered
to guest-star in our movie
as a hand drawn cartoon character.
We are looking forward to your participation!
