Hi I'm Premier Christy Clark. One of the pillars of the BC Jobs Plan is increasing
trade with the growing economies of the Pacific Rim
That's why I've led three trade missions to Asia since becoming Premier
The two biggest ones happened in 2011 and 2012
The first to China and India resulted 60 business deals and partnership
agreements
valued at 1.4 billion dollars the second
to Japan, Korea, the Philippines resulted in over five hundred million dollars in
deals and partnerships
on those two trade missions alone that's almost two billion dollars in new
economic activity
But building relationships goes far beyond government-led trade missions
it's all about leveraging our competitive advantages
It's about introducing the growing middle class of
Asia to the tremendous opportunities for tourism
and investment here in BC it's all about building bridges
One of the goals are asia-pacific gateway strategy was to increase
passenger traffic to Asia by 20 percent
by the year 2020 Yesterday
I helped welcome increased passenger air service
between Vancouver and Shanghai Increasing air service creates new
tourism and business opportunities here at home
which pays off directly in jobs
only by growing the economy can we afford the services we depend on
like education, like health care, but if we spend more than the taxpayer gives us
we only pass that debt onto our kids
So here's my commitment to you
We're going to keep working hard every day to invest and grow the economy
while making sure we don't spend more than we've taken
Thanks so much for listening
