My name is Amélie,
I’m from Belgium,
I’m doing a master’s in social communications in Trois-Rivières.
I chose to study in Québec
because of all the advantages.
Studying in Belgium and studying in Québec
is different in so many ways.
For instance, here, professors are always available,
they’re so open.
Students are evaluated more regularly here,
we usually have two exams,
a term paper and an oral presentation.
In Belgium, we often have four months of classes
and a final exam that’s worth 100% of the mark.
I love the way I was welcomed in Trois-Rivières,
it’s cold here, but the people are warm
and welcoming.
Being close to the United States
made it easy for me to travel,
Washington, Boston, New York…
It’s great to have
such easy access to the States.
The advantage of doing my master’s in Québec
is that my studies include
both journalism and marketing,
whereas in Belgium,
you have to choose a specialization.
So, when I go back to Belgium,
with this master’s in communications from Québec,
I’ll have a real advantage
over other candidates applying for the same job.
Of course, I miss my family,
I miss my friends,
but I’ve built a network here
so things are really going well for me.
Since I arrived in Québec, I’ve gotten involved in
the student association
at Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières,
and I really got involved in sports.
This created a large social network for me
and I’ve met a lot of people.
What I discovered, and absolutely love,
is hockey on ice.
I have a Price t-shirt and I also wanted a Halak jersey,
but he got traded before I got a chance to buy it!
That’s something I really like
and now, I know so much about hockey!
When I go back to Europe, I keep up with it on the Internet,
but I miss it when I’m in Belgium,
not being able to watch a game.
This year, I went dogsledding for the first time,
it was a great experience.
Many of my relatives came to visit me
and they fell in love with Québec.
My brother even said that soon,
I’d be the one visiting him, because
he’d be living here…
