My name is Mehmet I was born in Brussels and I am living in Brussels
and I work here freely as a local journalist.
Now in Turkey, dozens of reporters like me are unjustly kept in prison.
All national and international reports indicate that Turkey has become one of the world 's largest prison for journalists.
Journalists' pen are seen as guns, their articles are perceived as acts of terror
and they are treated like suspected terrorists.
Some are too much Kurds while others are too much secular kemalist
some are investigative reporters while others are basic correspondents
some are extreme leftists and some are extreme nationalists, but in fact all of them are extreme journalists
and If you read the indictments, you will see that its is their journalistic activities which are prosecuted.
To say stop to this injustice and on behalf of the European Federation of Journalists, I was today in Brussels "a standing man" (duran adam) like the independent Turkish choreograph Erdem Gündüz.
Journalists are not terrorists and their activities can never be considered as terrorist activities.
For two hours, I stood up at the headquarters of the European Union institutions in Brussels and I was freezing
I had to stay without moving and it was hard, very hard.
but it was much more easier than being held unjustly in prison for many years.
