The Joan Gamper Trophy is disputed before the start of Barcelona's season.
The trophy was created in honor of Barcelona's first president,
whose name was not Joan.
Barcelona's first president was from Switzerland,
named Hans-Max.
The name Hans...
in Catalonia, Spain,
became Joan.
The Joan Gamper is a very traditional competition,
existing for almost 50 years,
being a huge Barcelona's party,
once it opens the season.
Several teams, from many countries,
have been invited to participate:
teams from Spain,
Italy, England, Scotland,
from all over Europe
and South America, such as Brazil and Argentine.
Just a few Brazilian teams have been invited to participate.
They were five, including Santos FC:
Flamengo, Botafogo and Vasco from Rio de Janeiro;
Internacional from Porto Alegre,
and Santos FC, that disputed the trophy in 1998.
Since 1998,
no other Brazilian team has participated in the competition.
To be able to play against Barcelona will be amazing.
It'll be a dream come true.
To play at the Camp Nou, a historic stadium,
against a huge team, will be different.
We'll be more relaxed during the match,
each side will stand up for their interests,
we'll forget about our idols,
and we'll give our best.
This will be a great opportunity for Santos FC to...
go back to Europe and be part of a huge event.
Santos FC is the Brazilian team which has played
the biggest number of international matches.
The Brazilian team which has played
the biggest number of international matches
is now returning to Europe,
and, in my opinion, in grand style.
Santos FC has many players
coming from its Youth Academy,
and they will face Barcelona, which is a great team,
they are two great powers of the soccer world.
Santos FC and Barcelona are references of well-played soccer.
Santos FC now has a great opportunity
to recover, and not only Santos FC,
the European market.
