Here were the trenches used by militants.
We're in Muaddamiya district neighbouring with Darayya.
Counter-terror operations started here two months ago.
Troops have started enveloping this district from two sides
and moving forward pretty quickly.
270 militants have surrendered two days ago.
The gang that controls Muaddamiya
counts only 1500 terrorists by now.
But the unit commanders are foreigners.
This is the main problem.
Army counts on sanity prevailing
and this gang dissolving with no extra deaths.
"How long ago did the manufacture stop?"
"Our manufacture has stopped working in August 2012.
There are factories that have stopped even before us.
Destruction is huge after the terrorists were driven away."
The militants are twenty meters away, behind this wall.
You can see that they have looted everything from this manufacture during the short time while they were in command here
but they didn't manage to take all the equipment away.
The militants were trying to disrupt traffic on the highway from Damascus to Muaddamiya
using this sniper position.
They were firing at all the cars with no exception,
at civilians walking the road.
It's quite hard to discover such a position
since there are huge rooms here.
That's why we've seen broken windows and walls.
But the effectiveness of this fire is low enough
since the sniper position in the next room
stayed intact as you can understand.
"We've invited the owners of the manufactures as soon as these were freed
so that they could start restoring production
and begin to work as soon as possible."
We ask the ISI industrial group CEO to tell us
about the damage inflicted upon his business by terrorists.
"We had to close down last year,
on August 1, 2012 to be exact,
when the terrorists came
since it was impossible to work.
The manufacture was in their hands all of this time.
We asked Army to free this district
as soon as possible.
We were invited to start working
with no further delays
as soon as this has happened.
You can see the damage to production yourself.
We must thank the Army
that the equipment has been saved.
400 used to work here at the manufacture.
And now we try to organize production again.
We've been exporting our products to many countries of the world.
Including Canada, Russia, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Lebanon
as well as the Gulf countries."
"All of these factories were occupied by them.
All under their control.
Here are our positions.
This was the underground passage
used by militants to come here.
Everything is blocked by the Army now."
"Apparently the owner didn't agree to collaborate."
"The militants have tried to blow up the first part of the building.
Military knew that and took people away from here.
The explosion was of great power.
The Army has attacked the second part then
upon having entrenched here.
The militants have blown up the first part completely."
This manufacture where the Army's forward positions are situated now
was producing facing tile.
"This is the end of the tunnel.
Terrorists wanted to complete digging it
under all of the highway to block it.
The tunnel is equipped with ventilation and light."
It is known from radio interception that there are militants left in these basements.
Exact location is unknown.
"Please tell how counter-terror operations in Muaddamiya are going."
"Bandit gangs have revitalized their activity lately.
They destroy everything in their way.
Terrorists want to destroy our country's economy by doing that.
They do the same in this district.
They're capturing and destroying factories now
just as they've been capturing elevators, plants, oil wells before
where they've looted and destroyed everything they could
including the equipment.
These are private factories not state ones
but they play important role in country's economy.
Up to 500 workers and officers work at every factory.
Stopping these factories increases the unemployment figures
which worsens the tough enough economy of the contry.
They've also started controlling the Southern bypass connecting Damascus and Quneitra
since November.
There were may complaints from residential population
and the owners of these factories.
Thus the command has decided to carry out an Army operation
to free these districts
and drive them away from the city.
The complexity of the operation
has been that terrosists used residential population,
women, children, old people, as hostages
using them as a live shield.
This has served as the main cause to delay the operation.
Any military operations
done by Syrian Army
are always complemented with humanitarian operations
in battle areas.
We've organized and provided humanitarian help
to residential population several times.
But alas any aid that was sent to civilians by the state
has been captured by terrorists
as it happens often.
They've been reselling it to citizens for huge money.
When we managed to take part of the population away from this district
they've been telling us that they were hungry
and the terrorists had full stashes.
Everything we passed to civilians
wasn't getting to them but got left in militant hands.
Thus we told the residential population
that everyone who can leave should leave
[as we were] abiding to the high command's instructions
and by pure human point of view.
We've done everything possible and impossible for that.
We've been able to evacuate 4000 citizens from this district the first time,
women, children, old people.
Second time we took 2500 away,
and 1800 the third time.
270 terrorists who fought against us
came out together with women
and surrendered that last time.
Many of those were wounded and ill.
Everyone needing medical help
were sent to hospitals for treatment.
And of course anyone who admits their doings sincerely
and obliges to never take the arms again
can return to peaceful life,
return to society."
The owner of this factory didn't collaborate with bandits too apparently.
"There was a sniper here
who was well masked and was firing upon us with precision.
His position was hard to find out.
So we made and posted a dummy to provoke his fire.
We found and destroyed him when he has fired upon the dummy."
Here's this dummy - it's not allowed to walk there, alas -
which has helped to discover and eliminate the sniper.
