Fox News is has been discovered to be using fake
online commenters to counter bad publicity
Billy Mac brought this up and the
right up is about a me you know we report you decide we we've heard that
before
but it turns out that Fox News didn't really mean
mean at Media Matters has the goods on how they have a PR department that
pretends in online comment sections
to be people that really like boxing use this comes from the new book murdoch's
world by NPR's David
bokan flick who says that a *** staffer told him
that the company had hundreds a fake accounts to promote profile ox
commentary
where they would go on different blogs they would sometimes use
dial-up connections because they thought those would be less easy to track back
to Fox News they would sometimes
use these mobile I internet cards that you can
hook up to your laptop for example and that they actually would distribute
old laptop sometimes two staffers specifically to put up
comments imagine if you were the Fox News staff for Lewis
who had to use a real well dial-up to PLO post comments like Sean Hannity is
so awesome
that sounds like a really horrible existence
did not even need to be dynamin it sounds like they were going to some
extreme lengths to promote what was already
pretty popular programming right well I think the idea is that
online you would have but much bigger backlash when *** clips were posted
where you would get a stream of negative comments from people saying you guys
realize that this is right-wing nonsense
is the worst programming there's nothing Karen balanced about this
so then you just wanna have people commenting to make it seem
to the casual observer who just reads through the comments like oh
yeah there's some people who are against this programming and there's some people
who are for it
and they start playing point-counterpoint and it's just
a it's amazing that this had to be done and I really feel bad
like the 22-year-old college graduate who gets hired they've got their first
journalism jobs and they've gotta sit on dial-up
going on you know Huffington Post in writing positive things about
Bill O'Reilly's latest Talking Points Memo I mean that it just sounds horrible
not to mention that we know that those entry level people don't get paid very
much money at all
yeah and the Internet should be that the one place where we don't have this
possum quibble NC thing but I guess no place is safe
absolutely not no place is safe and the
yeah I i feel stifled and didn't didn't show me you know or someone
tell us that a lot of ACh staffers were paid barely more than the minimum wage
like
nine bucks an hour something like that I think so yeah I I think it was
it was on par with that and I think the working conditions were
were not great
