If you are injured at work in Iowa, there are three things that you should do initially.
The first thing is you need tell your employer. You need to talk to your supervisor, talk
to your manager, and tell them I was injured at work, I was hurt at work--that’s the
first thing you need to do. The second thing you need to do is you need to ask to see a
doctor. They should do that automatically. They should send you to a doctor. But I promise
you that doesn’t always happen. You need to tell them “I need to see a doctor.”
That’s the second thing you should do. The third thing you need to do is put this down
it in writing—whether that be an incident report to be filled out, many employers require
incident reports—fill one of those out and put all the details about the injury. If your
company doesn’t have an incident report, on a piece of paper, when you have an opportunity,
write down how you were injured, who may have witnessed that, give it to your employer,
and keep a copy of it. Those three things are very important for you to do when you
are initially injured at work.
