the to Fullerton police officers that were charged
in the beating death up Kelly Thomas have been acquitted
a both their charges %uh Manuel Rob most was one of those police officers he was
facing a charge of second-degree *** and involuntary manslaughter
and Jason alley was the other police officer who is charged with excessive
force
and involuntary manslaughter now after two days of deliberations the jury
decided
you know what we are not going to find them guilty they are acquitted
and this is definitely problematic because if you can remember two years
ago when Kelly Thomas was beaten to death
by these police officers it caused a media firestorm people were livid and
outraged over the treatment and the excessive force that was evident
in the video that went viral online now for those of you who don't remember the
story clearly we are going to show you the video in question
but I do want to warn you guys it's extremely graphic
and then we're gonna show you what Kelly Thomas look like in the hospital bed
where he died now again the videos graphic
let's take a look Lahore
you
way
wage
I
well cool my
good college
goals here are you
garden very well go

0 leo
you
this
love you
over my you hear you
it
oh yeah overall in the 2009
where you at home
I
so Kelly Thomas was schizophrenic he was tainted in the face twice by sister
Nellie
as you can see there were six police officers are attempting to subdue him
and they did subdue him
but they continue to beat him with batons and tease him so
look it may get rained better on how to deal with people who have mental
conditions because
I understand the frustration initially right so the guy won't listen to your
orders
a a schizophrenic and he's got issues right but there are
X number people out there that have those issues so we got a train our cops
to be able to deal with it
and he gate do they have to use force from time to time to subdue someone of
course they do
that's the nature their job we all get that right we just saw the tape
I mean look for software cases somebody I'm not an expert on this but my guess
is happy occasion the first time
give me a chance to comply with the orders because when you're getting paid
my guess is you're shaking
pride it's not easy to move your arms and say okay look I'm putting my arms
behind my back I'm rolling over
your the militant atheist so the six cases in a row
does early hell it's a little counter productive ratso
I I was under the impression that when you take a someone
it makes it extremely easy to subdue them and if you look at the video you
look at the full video
you see that he's on the ground and there are six police officers
bear on the scene so I don't really understand why they had to continue
beating him
after he was by the way if you can hear me keep saying dad help dad dad his
father was a former police officer
its looking is it a father was on the is it was in the courtroom
it's all bites heartbreaking if your dad in you hear that
and he keeps saying please please I he he's obviously trying to comply
midway through visited very little question about that right
they broke his bones and he died in the hospital but he died
five days later in the hospital we have a photo with the book like in the
hospital bed and I think it's important to show you guys you get a sense
the extent Avenger is that he suffered it's very graphic I should a warning I
Jesus Christ I'm so again these police officers
were acquitted they were found not guilty
%uh excessive force up involuntary manslaughter
and there's absolutely no excuse for that ruling that ruling in my opinion is
100 percent wrong
according to what the Los Angeles Times jurors agreed with defense attorneys at
the officers were trying to subdue an unruly suspect
not beat him to death and apparently in this case since it involves police
officers and since
they are usually considered justified in using force
on the prosecutors had to prove and intent
to cause harm right sold sold on the internet I understand that look
it if you're a random guy in you just come up with some buddies Cisco bring
him over the head and pay seem so
it there's dip almost the fact do intend I mean what what the hell did you do
that four right
now for Cup he sometimes has to do that as part of his job
so when he crossed the line you have to see if he intended to do the guy bodily
harm rather than just right is a pure
it makes prosecution and conviction much much harder
so like this are in case I don't agree with their
result to the jury would you have a jury system they did considered for two days
actually in this context is considered
a short period time and they came back and they ruled not guilty so that is
what it is an
as I guess nothing we can do about that and and that's our system
but it is awfully frustrating from time to time as you see this
because yes in the beginning it appears their intention was to subdue him I
don't doubt that
by the and my look at that tape
and I was in there on the jury the whole time but look at that tape
it doesn't appear that by the end their attention was just to subdue him
it look like I meanwhile the cops had put on paid put on the gloves and said
all right here we go all right
and and it look like their intent was to harm
and the Doom very grave bodily harm so let me jump in for second the defense in
this case a really great job
in distracting the jury for what really happened which was excessive force
and the way that they did that is they spent a considerable amount of time
focusing on
what led to the eventual death %uh Kelly Thomas right
so they're having these ridiculous debate and discussion about his past
drug use
ok he didn't die from getting beaten up he died because it turns out that he did
methamphetamine in the past that he had an enlarged heart
in fact they call someone up to the stand doctor steven crock
and he's a forensic pathologist who studies how drugs affect the heart
after viewing slides a thomas' heart cells crock said his death was caused by
an enlarged heart
due to previous methamphetamine use that's ridiculous
really and by the way he had no drugs in a system that day
so they love to do this I mean look back i'd to bring this up in this context but
it was like
when Michael Hastings so toxicology report came out and they said
the drugs it is a sort wrote so trace that they did not affect the accident
what did the entire media do I hate you it was on drugs is on what you know the
report said the opposite these
he wasn't on drugs that night and with this guy he was on drugs that night
right but is it all but says he's a druggy what they're really saying is
come on
well with the cops was do with this drug trade but they come with this issues
about the enlarged heart and that's why he died
well you know is a large part probably would have been an issue if you had
beaten to death
