Welcome to this edition of DoDEA News in a Minute, I'm Andrew Holloway.
The assassination of John F. Kennedy was a scarring and unforgettable moment in U.S.
history. On Friday, November 22, 2013, we recognize the 50th anniversary of that day.
All around the world, the memory of John F. Kennedy is being remembered and honored.
Students at Wiesbaden Middle School had a chance to learn about the President through
an exhibit, which was on display in their halls for three weeks.
The exhibit celebrates the 50th anniversary of John F. Kennedy's visit to Wiesbaden in
1963, and depicts German-American relations during that time.
May I say that when I leave the office of the White House, whenever that may be, I am
going to leave an envelope in the desk for my successor. It's going to say to be opened
only in the saddest moments, and it will have only the words written, "Go visit Germany."
What we want our students to see is that even though 50 years ago a U.S. president visited
Wiesbaden and that 50 years later there is still a strong bond between the garrison and
between the Hessen state and that there is still a love for our president now and 50
years ago.
Dr. Hargis added that she hopes the exhibit creates a stronger bond between Wiesbaden
Middle School students and their German partners. The exhibit was on display all across Germany
with Wiesbaden Middle School serving as its last stop.
