come on up. Both sides of me pelase.
Good Afternoon, I'm Mike Edmonds I'm the director of the State Lottery
and we are here today to welcome WI newest lottery millionaire.
But before we do that I would like to thank Kim Voy and Bill Pierce from the Pierce family.
They're the owners of the Viking express mart, for selling the million dollar ticket and
I'd also like to present both of you a check for $20,000.
This is your bonus for selling the winning ticket. So thank you Bill. And thank you Pam.
Viking mart isn't the only one who's going to be happy today, Because . . . what's going on?
we have some money for our employees for selling the tickets,
they work really hard at promoting the lottery. So we thought it was only fair that we
share with them. So we've got some envelopes here for all the employees.
We'll be giving the full timers some cash and the part timers some cash So,
they work hard at promoting it so they deserve it.
Thanks a lot. Here you go…
And this is what we've been waiting for. I'd like to introduce you to
Cathy and Chuck Andres, Cathy is the one who signed the ticket.
SMART WIFE!(laughter)
"I never sign anything" (laughter)
And I'm the one who signed your check and it's for a million dollars and congratulations.
The latest Powerball millionaire. We sold 4 million dollar tickets In a week last month,
and this is the second million dollar check that I've had the pleasure of giving away.
There are two more out there and I guess I'm gonna hit the road when those come out, but, for now…
Congratulations folks and I think there's going to be some questions from the press…
So, why don't you both get together. It's always a better shot when it's just you two and not me.
- Cathy what was your reaction when you found the ticket and what was your reaction when
you came here to redeem it?
Well, when Chuck came back out and said I put it in twice and it says "make a claim, sign your ticket".
I said "you're kidding me"
so I come in to see if it was true. And it was true.
So then I went out in the car and signed the ticket. Just like any faithful person would.
And Chuck bought more lottery tickets. (laughter)
Press: "You didn't buy a million tickets did ya?"
Cathy: No, we didn't know how much it was yet. I searched on the internet and I figured
it was either $10,000 or a million and when I found out it was a million I went
WOO WOO" (Jumping and cheering). (laughter)
So both of you are retired. What's in the future for the Andres now? Maybe a home someplace?
We were thinking about maybe purchasing a home in AZ but right now were just gonna take
things slow, not move fast on anything. We're gonna be the same people we've always been
and sit back and relax.
"you didn't gain any children or grandchildren in the last three days did ya?" (laughter)
No, we have 3 children and 8 grandchildren. We haven't got anymore. Not that we know of.
Except for Bill. (laughter) "I'm the oldest son!" (laughter)
We've had a lot of support, a lot of people who are here and a lot of people from the camp ground
where we work. And a lot of the people here today are either people who work there or stay there.
And they came down to share the good fortune with us today. It's pretty nice. Everybody's
been really supportive.
The people at the lottery office let me tell you, are really good nice people. They are wonderful people
"What time does the cork fly out of the first champagne bottle?"
"I don't like champagne. -So how about Americas best?" (laughter)
I'll have a couple beers Tom.
Any idea how many times you've bought a lottery ticket over the years?
we have bought a lottery ticket the day they started.
Sometimes a couple times a week sometimes once a week. I would say
in the last five years it's been about twice a week. Depending on what the jackpots are and what we spend.
Usually we get the drawings for Megamillions and Powerball Tuesday Wednesday and then Friday Saturday.
most people in the lottery may not want to hear this. But most people know that they
aren't gonna win. What were you thinking back when you bought that ticket?
I have just as good a chance as anybody else. We hear about a lot people winning so we just
think hey id be nice, we don't gamble much other, so it's always something you can think
about, you always have that hope. We just kept playing thinking what we could do with
it, help the kids. And it finally happened. It was a surprise.
That's fine, if you have any individual questions please step forward.
"Thank you very much." Not thank you.
"no thank you for signing it" (laughter) "I've got the best job in the state. I get
to give it away."
