The market can sometimes be overwhelming. There is so much information out there. What
did your neighbors sell for? What's going on in the neighborhood? Where are prices going?
Where have they been? What's a comp? how do I decide? I mean the whole process can take
over your life, so what I like to say to people is 'take a deep breath.' It's a very easy
process to sell your home or your apartment. And you just need to take it in stages. Take
a pen and write down all the things that you need to do. It's not that overwhelming if
you organize the process. In the beginning people think 'Is my apartment ready?' I mean,
the first thing is 'what do I do to make it look it great?' So some of the first steps
in selling your apartment are physically getting your apartment ready for sale. And you can
always find a good advisor, whether it's a broker or a stager or a designer, to help
you say what would make your home sell the best. Show the best. Make people feel engaged
in wanting to buy your apartment. So that would be step one. Step two would be 'oops,
do I have a place to go?' Maybe I should put that back as step 1. But let's assume you've
already gotten there. So once you realize what it takes to get the apartment ready to
sell, then you have to actually go through the process of selling it. So of course you
get out there, you interview brokers, you find somebody that you're comfortable with,
you list your apartment, and then you follow their advice. I would say don't get too emotionally
attached in the process of the sale. You're already emotionally attached in your home,
but let the process of the sale be handled by somebody else. there's a certain detachment
there that works in your favor. I remember personally when I was selling my home, I was
never there for a showing. I didn't want to meet the people. I didn't want to hear what
they said about my house. I didn't want to know if they liked my pictures or they didn't.
It didn't matter. What I was interested in doing was finding somebody who wanted my home,
who was going to pay me the price that I liked, and I was ready to move on. so once you make
the decision, commit to it, put yourself in the hands of the professionals and you will
find the process to be rather easy.
