Hello - This is Sloan Morris, Director of Client Services with Vigillo. This Vigillo
Video Help will provide a detailed walk through of the Vigillo CSA Red Flag Scorecard.
In this video, we’ll take a tour of the Red Flag Violations Scorecard for a fictional
motor carrier called Taber Mountain Trucking.
What are Red Flag Violations? According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety
Administration: When investigating a motor carrier, a Safety Investigator looks at driver
history for egregious violations of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. These violations
are referred to as Red Flag Violations and are ALWAYS investigated as part of a carrier
investigation. The Safety Investigator conducting the investigation looks to see if the violation
has been corrected. At present, the FMCSA lists 12 red flag violations.
Red Flag Violation Summary: The Red Flag Violation Summary shows you high
level information about all twelve of the Red Flag Violations, listed from most frequent
at the top to least. Eight Red Flag violations are in the Driver Fitness BASIC, two in Drugs
and Alcohol, and one each in Fatigued Driving and Vehicle Maintenance. Red Flag violations
are listed by number of violations so you can easily identify your problem violations.
For each violation we show the BASIC, violation code, description and severity weight, the
number of violations and a timeline showing when the violations occurred. For example,
Taber Mountain drivers have been cited eight times for Operating a CMV without a CDL and
you can tell at a glance when these violations happened on the timeline to the right.
Red Flag Violations by State The left-hand map shows which states your
red flag violations occurred in while the right-hand map shows this distribution for
all Vigillo customers. Taber Mountain’s red flag violations are concentrated in Utah
with California close behind. This could indicate that Taber Mountain Trucking is based in Utah,
has significant operations there, or that Utah is particularly vigilant about enforcing
red flag violations. Your knowledge of your fleet will help you interpret the map.
Red Flag Violations Timeline The timeline shows where your red flag violations
occurred, broken down by month and color coded by BASIC. All of Taber Mountain’s red flag
violations are in Driver Fitness so blue is the only color we see. At a glance we can
see Taber has had six red flag violations in the past year—two each in January and
February and one each in March and April. Prior to January was a seven month stretch
with no red flag violations.
Drivers with Multiple Red Flag Violations This section shows which of your drivers has
more than one red flag violation. These drivers will presumably attract the most attention
during an FMCSA carrier investigation. Each driver name is a clickable link which will
take you to the full driver scorecard. Taber Mountain has only one driver with more than
one red flag violation: fictional driver Hugo Hernandez. By clicking his name we can see
his driver scorecard. Here is the driver scorecard for Hugo Hernandez. If we scroll down, we
can see the specific violations. Now we can see that he has had two similar red flag violations
since the first of the year. Hopefully, Taber Mountain has reviewed these red flags, provided
training, counseling, or other corrective action, and documented the corrective action.
We'll click the back button on the browser to return to the Red Flag Scorecard.
Inspections with Red Flag Violations This scorecard section shows which inspections
included a red flag violation starting with the most recent. Each driver name is a clickable
link which will take you to the full driver scorecard. The inspection report ID is also
a clickable link which will take you to the inspection detail report.
Print and Export You may want to print out or export this page
of the scorecard. Here’s how: simply click the Export button here and choose PDF or Excel.
Well, that wraps up this Video Help for the Vigillo CSA Red Flag Violation Scorecard.
