So this vid is a video response to a vid by Elevencolors
His vid seems to have triggered a wave of tongue-twister vids, particularly by Japan based or Japan related vloggers
If you're watching this, even if you haven't done a vlog before, definitely, have a go and send me a response with some more
Out of the ones so for, I think elevencolors is still the champ - I can't get close to the one he fired out...
I don't know many tongue twisters, but here's what I know
The first I ever learned wasn't so much a tongue twister, as much as something kids say
That's not so much a tongue twister, as a way to just fire out a bunch of childish insults
Another one that was put outby Nozokimidayo, an Aussie vlogger was this one:
I think if you keep the meaning in mind, it's not so hard
Gimmeabreakman had one too
I'm saying that one from memory, but I seem to be able to manage it...
Another one I learned in NZ from a misbehaving sales rep that he used to make girls say a rude word in Japanese is this one
I'm still safe, if I slipped up, I might have had to bleep it out
So how's about NZ
The thing with Kiwis or European origin is that we are really totally lacking in any sense of imagination
I mean, the northern island is just called that, the "North Island", the south island is the "South Island"...
The east coast is the "East Coast", the west coast is the "West Coast"...
The northernmost province is "Northland", the southernmost province is "Southland"
Nobody could think of anything interesting to name these places...
Fortunately, NZ has indigenous Maori people who came up with lots of interesting place names before all us boring whiteys arrived
Maybe you don't know this, but there is a place in NZ with the longest placename in the world
It's not actually a town, but a hill, about 300m (900ft) high
The place itself is nothing flash, just a small area on the East Coast of the North Island, near Hawkes Bay
The thing is, if you are a Japanese and you try to pronounce this, you should be able to say it better than your average ethnic European Kiwi
The reason for this is that Japanese and Maori actually share a lot of things in common
There are some words that the languages share in common, both are Pacific Island countries, and Polynesian people are meant to have originated from and are related to the indigenous people of Taiwan
For example, the word for seafood "Kai" is the same in Japanese and Maori
For pronouncation, Maori and Japanese also pronounce vowels the same, so I will put this up in Katakana, and I'd encourage Japanese viewers to have a go at it
I don't know this by heart so I am going to read it from my computer screen
Man, this one is tough...
The longest placename in the world. Here goes.
さて、ニュージーランドの早口言葉です
もし言えたら、オーストラリア人じゃない証明となると思います
Nozokimidayo
For Japanese people too, if you can say this place name, try saying it and please teach me some tongue twisters to try
Even if it's your first vlog, have a go!
Cheers
Peace
