Coconuts can be found on the shore of tropical sandy beaches in the Caribbean Sea, Indian and Pacific Oceans.
It is often cultivated in other warm climate areas.
They usually can grow from the equator to both 28th parallel north and south.
Morphologically it is a large palm tree that can reach 30 m in height.
It has pinnate leaves which can measure up to almost 6 m long.
It flowers throughout the year in inflorescences that contain both male and female flowers.
These flowers are located in the axillary appendages.
The fruit is a oval monosperm drupe up to 30 cm in diameter with a fibrous pericarp and stony endocarp.
Its seeds are the world's largest known ones.
From coconut, different types of preparations are made such as:
Coconut water is cooling, laxative, diuretic and antihelmintic ....
Coconut milk formerly used as an intestinal antiparasitic ...
Coconut butter with emollient and anti-inflammatory properties ...
... and finally, coconut oil extracted from the fleshy endosperm called copra.
This oil is used as a cosmetic because it softens the skin, for example in soaps, shampoos and as a *** lubricant.
Excipients for suppositories and vaginal ovules can also be made of coconut.
The coconut is also a good fruit. From a nutritional point of view, coconut milk has sugars, fiber, protein, minerals and antioxidants and, as such, is an excellent natural isotonic beverage.
