this is a tip i have found helpful
if i happen to run out of chain at the end
i am just using a small swatch
if it was small like this, i would rip out and start over
when you get to the end
and find that you don't have enough chain
it can be frustrating
to have to rip everything out and start over again
so this is the solution i have found to work in the past
when you are using a standard skein of yarn
you have the strand from the center
and you have the strand from the outside
i work with the strand that comes from the center
so what i do is take the strand from the outside of the yarn
and attach it
right here in the beginning
and then continue
with my chain
like this
and then continue working my stitches
and i cut my extra chain
and then pull it through to secure it
and i wind up with an exact amount
for my foundation chain
with the extra tails right here
i will take and tie a knot
i don't want them coming apart
and if you do not do an edging
you can easily sew the tails right into the stitch
just like this
and you will be the only one to know that extra chains were added on
to your foundation chain
and that is a little trick that i do
when i wind up with no enough chains
at the beginning
