Hi there, I'm Roberto. Hope you guys are doing well.
It's Sunglasses Sunday and it's a good thing I'm wearing my aviator glasses because today's
topic is about flying. I was watching The Good Stuff's playlist about
airplanes. It's extremely good and if you haven't watched
it, it'll be featured in the end screen of this video and also linked in the doobly-doo.
In one of the videos Craig shared that he has a little bit of fear of flying and he
actually did something to deal with it. I'm not going to tell you what he did; I'm
not going to spoil it. But all this got me thinking.
I'm not a big fan of traveling; I'll do it as many times as necessary but it's not something
that I would do for pleasure. Yet, I'm not afraid of flying.
In fact, flying is probably the best part of the whole experience.
It's what happens before and after what makes me dread the travel experience.
First it's the long check-in lines and I'm always afraid I'm going to end up making the
wrong line and wasting time. Then there is the security and oh my god,
it always seems like it takes an eternity! And that's a huge test of patience.
I mean, even though inside I'm like. GRRR! These idiots are making me late; I hate
this! You cannot afford to give security agents
the wrong impression. So you always have to keep your cool even
though inside you are eating yourself. Then there is the mission of getting to the
right gate on time. I've only requested sighted assistance from
the airline once and I've only gotten sighted assistance once, and they were not the same.
Yes, the time I requested assistance I got nothing and I had to do everything on my own.
And there was one day when one of the employees offered to help me around and I ended up crossing
half the airport with him, on a wheelchair. That wasn't really cool but the dude was really
nice and I didn't want to give him a hard time.
Then after the flight it's getting to baggage claim and praying that my suitcase is there
and that everything I put there is still there. I had a camera stolen in San Juan's airport
back in 2002. It was a basic point-and-shoot VGA camera
so there were some really cheap thieves. But the flight itself is the best part of
the experience. I cannot drive so I'm already used to not
having the control when it comes to transportation, and just because I have no clue on how to
fly a plane doesn't mean others won't. Being stuck in a plane for hours with a lot
of strangers doesn't bother me either. An airplane is one of those rare cases where
it is acceptable, heck it is recommended, for you to be antisocial.
Nobody expects you to carry a long conversation with them.
Nobody expects you to walk around the cabin and mingle with everybody, so I just sit back,
relax, take out my laptop or my tablet and enjoy a good game or a good movie.
I don't listen to music though. Music is banned for me while flying.
Why? Well, let's say that... ♪ We've come too far to give up who we are.♪
Yeah, I can't resist the temptation to sing
along and I don't want to be that guy. Nobody wants to be that guy.
But that's just me. How about you?
Are you afraid of flying? If so, how do you deal with it?
Please, let me know in the comments. Thank you for watching.
