So I started working at a small hospital, and after about nine months, realized how
much I didn't know and got a little nervous and found somewhere that offered a training
program and that's how I came here. I enjoy every day that I'm here. When I come
in, I feel like I'm home, I feel comfortable. We all back each other up. You have to work
as a team in labor and delivery, as with most places in nursing, but here, we never know
what's going to walk in the door. There could be two people ready to deliver in five minutes
time, so we all have to back each other up and take over other patients and make sure
we get the patient taken care of. Our labor and delivery unit is number two in the city
here, so we are a very busy labor and delivery unit. It takes a special person to work here
in DeKalb. You have to put the patient first; patient safety always comes first. We all
sign an iReach policy, which means you have to provide that care to the patients. If you
don't, then you may need to find somewhere else to work because here, that comes first.
I have stayed at DeKalb for as long as I have because I learn something every day. It's
an environment that teaches you something that you'd never thought of, or you never
experienced, every single day. For me, that keeps me involved, keeps me wanting to learn
and grow. We also have a wonderful family of nurses and doctors and staff members that
work so well together. I feel very comfortable every day when I come, and that's a huge part
of why I stay here. My name is Linda Moon and I am very proud
to be a nurse at DeKalb Medical.
