hi guys this is going to be the tutorial that's going to show you
how to make this sunflower and you don't have to use
sunflower colors, you can make this be any color of flower
gonna be using worsted weight yarn
4-ply for the US
or 10 ply for the UK or AU
and I'm also using a 3.5 millimeter hook
or a size E hook and this is
my "Cluster Crochet Beanie" I also have a tutorial for it.
and as you can see, I didn't sew on my petals, just the center of the flower onto my hat
but you can sew your flower on however you like. I'm going to go for a darker color
for the middle of the flower. Can't use the dark brown on camera because it won't show up
so I have to use these other colors
To start off, you want to chain four
one, two, three, four,
then slip stitch into your beginning chain
to form a ring. For Round one you
want to chain 3. And this chain 3 will not count as a stitch
then triple crochet twelve into the center of the ring
to triple crochet, yarn over twice
to yarn over once would be a double crochet
yarn over twice to make a triple crochet, insert your hook into the ring
pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops at a time.
one, two, three
That your first stitch because
the chain doesn't count, so again
you want to repeat this 11 more times
doing 12 triple crochets
in this ring. So continue to do that and
I'll see you in a moment
okay have my
triple crochets, and now you want to slip stitch, NOT in the
chain, but in the first triple crochet
of the round
For round two, chain 5, 1,2,3,
4 and 5. Now you want to slip stitch
in this first triple crochet
on the post of the first triple crochet which is here
because here below us
is the chain, so make sure you're slip stitching onto the
post. You just go in and grab it
then you want to slip stitch and then again you want to chain 5
1,2,3,4,5
and again, find your next triple crochet post
which is here, and go under it and
slip stitch, you'll be repeating
this for the whole round. chain five again
go on to the next post and slip stitch and repeat
you want to continue to do this all the way around
until you come up to the beginning, it's pretty easy to see
where you've done your first one
because it sticks out
okay I've come to the end of my round, and this is your chain
3 space here, you don't want to go into that one
find your first post of the round again
and then slip stitch into it
this will end round 3
and now for round 4
It begins at the same round 3 ends, because that's your first connection
and your first stitch. Chain 5 again.
find the next post
we'll repeat the exact same thing
we just last around. Chain 5
slip stitch on to the next post
I like I said when we come back to your first post again
you will be ending your round and beginning the next
when you're getting ready to finish all
three of your rounds, because you will be doing it three times, this will be
the final stitch that you'll be finishing in
and you can tell
which is your final stitch, which would be
here, and you will know have 3
I mean it has two, but later it will have three. And you will know because you will have
three complete versus just one here.
At the end you will have three in each petal
we doing this for rounds
four and five, doing the same thing
chaining 5, and slip stitching onto
the next post
so repeat this for this round and the next
and i'll see you when you get done. Now this is what I'm talking about I just
did my chain 5 slip stitched here
and i don't need to chain 5 and repeat
because I have one, two, three on this side, and three on this side
so this is my ending
stitch here
so when you've come to that point, cut your yarn leaving a long tail
I go in through, in between
two stitches just
just to pull your tail to the back of my project
then you can use this extra tail to sew this
onto your flower. so that's how you do the center
of the flower. Now we need to make the petals.
switch to your petal color. And to start
again you want to chain 4
and slip stitch into that beginning chain to form a ring.
for round 1 you want to chain 2
The chain 2 does not count as a stitch
then you wanna double crochet 12 into the center
ring
1,2...
continue until you have 12 double crochets worked in the ring
to end the round you skip the chain
and slip stitch into the beginning double crochet
chain 2 and again this does not count as a stitch, you want to put
two double crochets in the same beginning stitch
this beginning double crochet you just
slip stitched into. Put two double crochets there
then you want to put two double crochets
in each stitch around, so you started with 12
and at the end of this round you should have 24
you're doubling your stitches here. SO continue to put
two double crochets in each stitch
and i'll see you when we get back to end. I've come to the end of my row
and this one almost looks like a stitch, because of the chain here
when you get to the last stitch of the round here, make sure that you have 22 stitches
and when you do, remember you don't slip stitch
in the chain
but in the first double crochet of the round
For round 3, chain
10 ...counting......
and then you want to slip stitch
mining tango and then you on a slip stitch
in the next stitch
you'll be repeating this all the way around
counting... chain 10 again
and slip stitch into the next stitch
so continue to do that all the way around.
ch 10, slip stitch into the next stitch, ch 10, slip stitch into the next stitch, repeat
and continue. Okay I just slip stitched into
my last chain ten space and now what you do is you go
to this first chain 10 that you did
and just single crochet
on the post of the chain 10 from last round.
you want to do
a total of 5 single crochets
counting.... then you want to
do 4 double crochets
counting.....
then you want to repeat
you're five single crochets
counting...
now once you've got your
petal with your 5 single crochets, 4 double crochets
and five single crochets, you want to go back in
to where, like this one for instance see
where your next chain starts here and it ends here.
so this is the place where it begins
so find where your original chain began
and slip stitch in that same stitch.
see it here, where its connected?
so once you do you're 5 single crochets, 4 double crochets and 5 single crochets
you will be slip stitching back
into this beginning stitch
here
so again, on the
chain itself, we'll be single crocheting
five...counting
and five, then you will do
four double crochets
counting....
then put five single crochets
counting....
and five..
and again, slip stitch where your chain first began
and you'll
repeat this for every petal
all the way around. Ok I just got done
with my last petal
after that you want chain one, which i have already done
then leave yourself as much tail as you think you'll need
to sew the flower onto your project
if you wanna put it on the a hat or something
pull your string tight
then flatten out your flower. get the center here
grab your tapestry needle
get your
centerpiece that you made earlier
now you want to, put it in the center
and try to unroll it as much as you can
so it's more full in front
and then i'm going to go through
the back
from the bottom row
then go into my flower
go to the back
and i'm just going through the next area and coming up through the
bottom layer
again
and going through the same chain
here, take your time
make sure that you sew
it all the way around
try and use every little of these
petals on the first row that we did. coming up through oen then going back
and on the other side
this is a long tail
so my chain 5 here
coming up through here, then i'll go back down through the other side, then i'll come up through the next one
neck swelling go down
just continue to do that until you have the whole thing
sewn on all the way around/ And that's it!
That's how you make sure your sunflower and as you can see, you can make
it in any color
and I hope that
you could follow along and can now make many big flowers for your hats
