Whether you’re just discovering the world of Japanese paper or you’re here for a specific
sheet, our selection of over 125 different styles, patterns, and colors means that beautiful,
decorative Japanese paper is just around the corner, in-stock, ready to ship.
On first visit to our Japanese paper section, many people are drawn to our Chiyogami paper
with vibrant patterns based on traditional symbols representing beauty, good fortune
and long life. You might use Chiyogami to add a decorative element to your invitation,
to make a custom envelope liner, or even as Origami paper. Each variety of Chiyogami paper
is silk screened by hand, a labor intensive process requiring a separate screen for each
color pattern.
But Chiyogami is just one type of Japanese paper that we offer. Modern Classics are machine-versions
of traditional and delicate papers with all the beauty without the limitations; meaning
you can print at home and fold paper that, for example, looks like brittle wood veneer.
We also carry other versions of Japanese paper including delicate looking tissue that is
deceptively strong, card stock with a distinctly Japanese linen finish, and smooth, floral-patterned
vellum, to name a few more.
All of our Japanese paper is made in Japanese studios—small, family-run businesses utilizing
renewable plant fibers, respecting water sources, and making sure nothing goes to waste throughout
the papermaking process.
We invite you to order samples. See the paper with your own eyes. Run your fingers over
the surface. We think that once you experience Japanese paper, you’re going to go out of
your way to use it. And if you have any questions, please get in touch with us. We’d be happy
to answer them.
