Hello, I'm Captain David Eckerman
with the public information section,
we're at Metro Police Headquarters today
for the launch of the 911 Build.
The three emergency services have
partnered with Habitat for Humanity.
We hope that our combined efforts will
will raise in total 200,000 dollars
for the construction of two homes
in the Victoria Park and Danforth area.
For further information go to the
website torontohabitat.ca
We are a public service organization
and our credo is Courage,
Compassion and Service.
In its unique way of rewarding both
individuals and the city with a home.
To quote Habitat for Humanity
offering a hand up not a handout.
This project allows us to help families
in a dignified and meaningful manner by
establishing strong healthy communities.
I am proud of our Emergency Services
working together to make this
reality come true in this great city.
Although we usually meet over tragic
conditions, we now come together to
build a community from the ground up.
Toronto Fire Services in the past
has taken an active role by putting on
that construction belt and work boots
and working on Habitat projects.
Now we are given the opportunity to
serve next to our Emergency
Services partners.
Not only with hammers and saws
but with this opportunity to fundraise
for this worthy cause.
It's my hope that all eight homes
will receive residential sprinklers
at the end of this build.
I'm working towards that now and
I'll make that public statement today.
So Habitat for Humanity emergency
services, we're proud to be part of it
we'll build houses in this great city of ours.
For several years we have really seen
a coming together of all Emergency
Services in the City of Toronto.
My friends Chief Stewart of the Fire
Department, Chief Farr of EMS and
all of our people have really come
together to serve the people of
Toronto and it is entirely fitting
that they would also come together
to express their commitment to this City
and to it's community by working
together, building together, we serve
together and now we will build together,
and I think that's an incredibly
important initiative.
After months of planning today's kickoff
will mark the beginning of a truly very
very special project and will have lasting
memories for all of us that are
involved in the project. Everyday
Toronto Police, Toronto Fire and EMS
work together in the community
to save lives and help make Toronto
the great and terrific city that it is.
