Publishing is defined as the process of production of literature or information, or the activity
of making of information available for public view. In some cases authors may be their own
publishers. A publisher's responsibility includes putting together a book from start to finish,
which most people think is easier than it is, because everyone knows computers know.
However there is much more than meets the eye. And a professional publisher knows what
the process inside and out. A professional publisher will handle deciding which books
to publish in the first place. Negotiating a contract with the author and illustrator.
Applying professional layout to the manuscript, one which fits the style and voice of the
story as much as possible. Designing an eye-catching cover is something else that a publisher will
help with. Securing an ISBN number. Making sure that the book is available for distribution
online and in stores. For example we use Amazon.com and the Ingram database which makes your book
available special order from any bookstore in our country. For authors who are self-published,
subsidy published or even traditionally published but relatively unknown, the general expectations
are that the marketing will be handled by the individual author. Publishers don't usually
do that in the self-publishing industry, such as they do with traditional. So knowing what
you're expecting from your publisher, it's something that that you need to research and
decide for yourself.
