Hello YouTube, Today is the 9th of May 2010
and your watching Hayden Hat Trick
Today we will be going to South Bank Australia
for the Careers Expo
Where we'll be updating with information
On what you wanna proceed, information on
what a good read is, who needs what, and
we'll be interviewing people possibly
that will be great
First of all before we hoped on the train
Platform 2, which is what we are ussualy traveling
Was closed, and we had to hop on at platform 1
Due to a coal train de-railing
Now our little joke is that
The coal train was weighed down by
The new tax hikes.
Yeah, so, we'll see you in the expo
I love the escilators at the exhibition center for this reason
and they switch on, saving energy
Matthew: Look at it, it's so big
HatTrick: You think we should blur faces? Matthew: No, were going to fast anyway
HatTrick: yeah but if there's someone here who is a fututive or something
HatTrick: We're here today with constriction films Queensland
Guy: Skills
HatTrick: Were here at Construction Skills Queensland
HatTrick: and they've set up a simulator in this exhibition
HatTrick: why dont you tell us some stuff about how to get into this field
To get into the construsction industry you need
to do lots of work experience while your in high school
And you need to ask lots of tradesmen about how they got into the industry
So you can introduce yourself. You can get onto our website *something*.com.au
or call our hotline on 1800 798 488
I just like to ask, what sort of personal experiences have you had, like funny stories...
I'm a carpenter
I did my trade and worked for myself and employ people as well
and now i work with kids (teens), and um, try and get them the work experience
so, you know you have lots of stories about working with kids, ya' know
they have to learn to muck arround on site, how to take a ribbing from the guys down there
How manny people do you see comming through the industry
Lot of young people who wanna' get into the construction industry
which makes it quite hard to get into sometimes, you have to really put yourself out there
You know, its not going to come too you, you have to go too it
so a medic cource, and do as much work experience as you can
And introduce yourself to as manny people as you can.
So lets have a look at this thing over here
So could you tell me any histroy on the simulator?
Yeah, the simulator is just a tool we use to get poeple over so we can talk to them really
This simulator is'nt a training simulator
Although it uses the same controlls as a real escivator
Could I just ask, who exactly made this simulator
It's a CAT program
*It's the CAT companies program or something*
HatTrick: Alright, thanks for that Guy: No problem
Talking to Tim Caustin from defence force recruting right now and hes going to tell us about how to be a piolet
So Tim im just wondering, if you wanna start your carrer who should you go to, too talk about becoming a piolet
You need to go to defence force recruiting, you'll need to either call up the nimber on 13 19 11 or go on the website www.defencejobs.gov.au
becoming a piolet you need to make a decision, if you go and look at the fixed wing plains
airfore, if you wanna work on rotory wing hillicopters, the its going to be in the navy
so alright im also wondering, what sort of demand (is there)
pertty much we dont have to sell piolets at all because everyone wants to be a piolet
its really cool, people wannt be a piolet naturally
we could be quite selective on who we take, so were only going to take the best people to be a piolet, because they are multi million dollar aircraft
Do you have any personal stories or experiences that you would like to share
my carrer highlights would have to be when i actually went over to bourganvil
I want to a contry desert east of pupynewgienne where they had a civl war, and we went in there to movitor the truce
we were unarmer, and that was cerainly a hilight of my career
2001 i got to do an exchange program with the british, so i saw 11 different contries
and then at the start of this year i was actually fortunate enough to qualify last year in a sport called triathalon
which is cross contry skiing, and then at the start of this year i went over to europ, in there winter coloured contry climate
winter coloured contry sort of climate, and i was able to go and compeat against other defence forces
its quite good actually, there were a bunch of winter olympians that were training right beside us
Tim: just before they went to there olympics HatTrick: So you got to see people you know on TV
yeah some of them
alright
last of all, in the terms of aprentiships, what would be a good starting location for learning what details you can grab
Its either; mechanical; enginearing; automotive; aviation; or electro technology
theres 5 main catigories *cant get what he says sorry*
What is in the most demand out of the 5
definetly electronics
so electronics people, if you wanna go look into that
So we got an awesome machine that the (defence force) has done at the moment
What can you tell me about it?
This car has actually been built by our apprentis vehical mechanics
there trained down at victoria at a place called bonagilla, which is near the yogria modonga
this car acctually started life in one of the service cars for our general
and for about 20 year now, its used as a training aid, for the apprentices to learn how to do different systems like breaks, cooling the engines
now last year they were given a buget to go and make a street machine, and
the aprentices have built this up to how it is now
and now there taking it around to all the big events like
world skills here, *something*, graun pree
supper cars, and it dose big burn outs
its maintained and run by our apprentices
how old is this car
its a 78 model, forward LTD
so if anyone has a good ($200,000), they can fix it up and have a cheep version
*laughing*
