Most of us are familiar with the commercial use of screen printing.
examples can be seen on shirts
coffee mugs, caps and other items
however, at Chemeketa Community College our focus is on screen printing as fine art.
The process itself is straight forward.
Simply put...
the print is created by transferring ink through screen mounted stencil onto a
sheet of paper using a squeegee.
This step is repeated for each print and for each color used
Prints may range from a single color to as many colors as the student wishes.
Subject matter maybe as personal as family portraits
or deal with broader issues such as war, politics and the environment.
Charles Sekafetz >> My Name is Charles Sekafetz. I am the Program Chair for Electronics here at Chemeketa Community College.
I uh...
decided to take some classes during the summer time to find out
a couple of different things
about myself but also about what my students are going through
on a daily basis. For that reason I decided to take two primary art classes, one in Intro to Sketch and one in Print Making.
I strongly encourage my students today uh… to take the course
strictly from the idea of registration and understanding how layers go together.
It's about process. It's about
understanding
attention to detail. It's about
being creative. It's not just simply about putting layers down and colors down and washing out your screens, and… and...
you know, and… and… being worried that your going to have to meet your deadline and everything
else but it is all that
And I say, I keep on trying to tell them take the print making course
take some of these other courses out there because they're going to build on your creativity
they're going to build on your understanding of process, of control, of registration, of...
of just having a great time
and I'm a prime example of that.
Narrator >> Through this class students are given a great opportunity for individual expression.
