The next candidates cannot wait to present their project to the jury
They seem to be well prepared and have thought of everything - or?
Beweng Ronny and Buch Jens please
>A lot of 'hi's<
So, who are you?
I am Ronny
And I am Jens
I have been working in the security business for 10 years
I am from the IT business
This is Ronny - and I am Jens
I am Ronny
Jens is from the IT business
One evening I went for a drink with Jens
And told him about my idea
And that is pretty much how SurviCam was founded
We would like to present you a little video
Jens and Ronny are friends and business partners
One of them works in IT
And the other one in the business
The two compliment each other perfectly
When we embark on an idea, we do it properly
We prepare and plan it in the way we think is best
and we take the risk if it can be calculated to our advantage
Good Jens, and as always I won
Thanks mate
They are both convinced about their project and believe in the big break through
Our project will be a success story as we have worked on it for 2 years
The project is ready from a technical point of view and we are ready to launch
SurviCam is a surveillance system for consumers that is so user-friendly that people can install it themselves
You plug in the camera and it works straight away
With this easy to use system everyone can surveil what matters to them
Be that kids, grandmothers or pets - burglars, baby sitters
or the cleaning lady that might be up to something no good.
That already exists
yes
That means the difference between your system and what already exists is the cloud I take it.
Exactly
Can you explain that to me in a simple way?
It sounds like clouds, and I don't want to look into the clouds on a project.
It simply means that everything is centralized and managed centrally
To put it in an easy way, it means that
there is no server at home, but there is a central server in a given location that it is connected to.
Exactly
And all the recordings from the cameras are also store in the cloud.
What is your goal? To sell hardware or a service?
A service. And you can see it on this sheet.
We need to sell a camera. At present we sell the camera at 199 EUR - so under 200 EUR.
In addition there is a subscription - that means people buy a subscription.
The subscription runs either 1, 3, 6 or 12 months with decreased pricing
so that it boils down to 72 cents a day.
But that is a pretty high price. Have you tested if anyone wants to buy this?
Can I ask you a question? What do you think a camera costs?
A normal camera with a recorder and an installation - from my experience
we are looking at something between 1500 and 2500 EUR.
That means the investment is paid off quicker. And you have the advantage in case you have
an apartment abroad, you can take the camera with you. Plug it into the router...and it will work.
Here I can show you our SurviCam app.
I can't see anything
Sorry.
Come over here so we can look into this cloud.
We have zero configuration. We plugged it in and it works
That is the whole clue to it and what makes us stand out from the competition.
Have you thought about data protection with this?
The idea of the camera is to install it inside somewhere behind a door
like that you do not need the authorities to approve the camera, as it is for private use
That is also written in our terms and conditions.
Before you click the buy button, you must agree to the terms and conditions.
What turnover do you expect and how many customers do you plan to acquire - do you have an idea?
That is hard to say in the internet business. Tomorrow we could sell 1000 or just one.
Your time is up, but we can get more into the numbers.
Have you prepares something so we can see this? We need to put some meat on the bone.
Financially we have no risk. If we make a sale, we have costs.
If we do not make a sale, we have no costs.
Are this enough explications?
Yes
Then I would like to know what the colleagues from the jury think.
Marc, how do you see it?
I want to give positive feedback, but at the same time ask you to provide more information
in the shape of a financial plan and very importantly how you plan to make money.
A YES from Marc Lamesch. Nico?
Well - its horrible. George Orwell, big brother is watching you.
I have a problem with that.
But this is the future.
I think there is a huge demand for this. To me this is a super idea and a clear YES.
Betty?
I also think the idea is very good
and what I also like about you two is that it is very mature.
You have really looked into this and you have prepared it very well
and it appears that you have a big advantage towards your competitors.
You still need to get it out there.
That means, you will get a YES from me, but with homework.
And find a way as to how you want to market it and put numbers on it.
That is still a bit of a grey zone.
The little hick up is that you need to move away from the technical aspects and in a second
phase look at the business side of things in order to commercialize it and put that on paper.
I mean 4 times YES - we want to see you in the final.
Thank you very much.
Now to the second part of the success story. Now our top 8 really need to give it their best shot.
During the casting, the jury had some things they wanted to be improved.
For an example, the bubble tea boys needed to find out how to even make the asian cult drink.
And the wedding planner Karen needs to convince her first clients about her service despite
having no experience and contacts.
It doesn't really sounds like the big business.
Although there is an exception with Jens and Ronny. Things with the A-grade students are running smoothly.
And how the other contestants do, can be seen now in the second part of the success story.
Afterwards this will be 400 grams - so a solid cardboard.
How many grams is this?
This is 280 grams.
Jens Buch and Ronny Beweng don't do half things.
Today they are meeting with a team of communication, legal and finance experts to get the best advice.
The logo itself has been given a certain power so that when you see it on a t-shirt or a cap
people know 'this is SurviCam'.
Because the SurviCam logo resembles the logo of a large international brand too much,
the communication agency has developed a new logo that fits the company perfectly.
In fact the logo has two attributes. On one side its an eye that can observe.
On the second side it represents a sphere in which all the information is stored in
a cloud system which can be accessed from anywhere in the world.
So the recordings made where the camera is in use.
In addition the new packaging, in-store furniture, business cards, caps, t-shirts and stickers.
So a totally new visual identity which the trademark specialist Olivier Laidebeur has registered.
First we did the research to see if the trademark exists in the name of someone else or not.
After that we registered the trademark to protect it for 10 years.
Now where SurviCam has a new visual identity, a deeper look into the numbers is taken and
various different scenarios are simulated.
In year 2014 we see a positive net result around 10.000 EUR.
A finance plan is part of a business plan. A business plan is not a legal necessity,
but a navigational instrument of a business. And there has a big importance.
In this document it is described under which conditions a business develops in a certain space of time.
As the numbers appear in the business plan it can be said that they are relatively prudent
and a bit pessimistic on the costs side of things. With that in mind, we believe they
need to sell 100 cameras in the first year to break even. In order to pay out salaries,
they need to sell 400 cameras with 600 subscriptions.
In this development several different factors play a role.
The team which is behind the project The market with the clients and competition
The needed investments with their financial impacts
And the forecasted income and costs - all in the shape of a finance plan over 3 years.
In this way, Ronny and Jens are able to realistically forecast the financial development of their business.
400 sold cameras and 600 subscriptions within 3 years is something Jens finds very realistic.
We are of course sure that we can reach these numbers.
Alone with sales via the internet, we believe we will far exceed 400, very quickly.
It's great when you have a nice product, but if nobody is going to buy it, it is useless.
That means - and I keep coming back to it - that you need to market this product.
These words were marked.
Today we have our first meeting with a reseller. Let's see what they say about our new product survicam.com
The plan. SurviCam needs to be made available in Luxembourg's five regions via resellers.
This electrician's business could be the first business to join for the western region.
So we launch an app which we have created ourselves called SurviCam.
We launch SurviCam 2 - and, we see ourselves. >Reseller< - we see ourselves straight away.
Mr Beweng, what's the situation if a customer has a problem to install this at home?
We train your technicians, so that they know what todo in case a camera is not working.
In case of someone not being good at installing the camera and drilling the holes to hang it up,
we count on you adding the service of doing this for the customer.
But does the potential reseller even want that?
That's our concept.
You need to buy 10 cameras from us and we give you one for free.
So now the crucial question - are you onboard to sell our product via your store?
It's great, we managed to sign up our first reseller.
We left the stand in the store, because they wanted it straight away. Now we can continue.
That is a product that fits nicely with our other products and I can imagine our clientele liking this.
