Hi, my name's Ruth Palmer and this is my partner, John Charlton.
We own a company called Tundra Airborne Surveys Limited.
Tundra is an airborne geophysical survey company
we do remote sensing contract surveys for
mostly junior mining companies.
We're out exploring for diamonds, uranium
base metals, rare earth metals.
Shortly after we bought the aircraft
the world economy basically collapsed
the mining industry slowed down
and we weren't able to generate enough work
to pay for the modifications that were required to the aircraft
to make it suitable for airborne geophysics
so we needed to go out and look for external financing
and this all requires a professional business plan
which we hadn't needed before because the economy was good
and we were just sailing along.
We were spending a lot of time trying to put our own
business plan together, right?
Weren't really getting there in a polished manner at all...
so, yes, it was worth it.
It really was to our advantage to use Canada Business Plans.
We couldn't have done it without them.
We would not have succeeded hopefully in gaining funding
without their knowledge and expertise.
Without the business plan, we would be struggling right now
to come up with the finances to pay for the
modifications needed for our aircraft
to carry on with our business.
Developing this business plan actually forced us to focus on
the industry as it is, and what our future plans are
and actually how we were going to
finance and run the business and grow the business in the future.
The best thing about owning your own business is actually
the flexibility you have, right?
It can fulfill a dream.
It can be a challenge.
It's hard work, but it's worth it in the end if you persevere.
