Alright it is 2014, it is time to get ready for the Spring Vegetable Garden. That's right
it's January 20th today. But, here in North Texas we are getting ready for the Spring
Garden. It is time to get a lot of stuff in the ground; time to get the onions, potatoes,
coming pretty soon... a lot of other stuff growing already. It is the time to grow vegetables,
finally it is time, Winter is hopefully over soon enough here. We're getting some more
cold fronts and freezes and stuff coming up, but this stuff here in the ground right now
will be OK, in the upcoming freezes that we will most defiantly have for the next probably
month or so in North Texas. So let me just give you a real quick recap, and update of
what is going on behind me in our Spring Vegetable Garden. That's right Spring is coming very
soon. Let's check it out.
ok, so here we got, some several varieties of Swiss Chard that I've planted this. This
is...we had to replant all of our Swiss Chard, because after our Ice Storm a couple months
ago , it killed all the Swiss Chard, so we got several different varieties here of Swiss
Chard growing. Our chickens love the Swiss Chard and so do we. And then here is...this
is the Bull's Blood Beets..got a couple of those coming along very nicely. Also you can
eat the leafs, the greens of that beet And then here is a Chinese cabbage, this is a
actually a Bok Choy, great for stir fries, great greens, eat your greens. And then here
is a dinosaur kale, Toscano Kale, also died from the freeze, replanted that. And here
is a fennel, fennel growing, coming along very nice.
This is the Florence Fennel, I believe, and then here I have some Onion Chives that are
coming along quite nicely , and then I also have some Garlic Chives, in another location,
and that's a perennial that comes back every year. And then here some fresh Dill, very...coming
along, it a...very easy to grow the Dill there. And these are some left over onions. Here's
our onions that we got in the ground. Several varieties of onions planted this year. We
are going to grow a lot of different onions. We expanded our Onions selection. And the
also, we have this is some Spinach...slowly popping out of the ground here. Got a short
row of Spinach. Great for salads and then also here is some new Broccoli that we have
just recently planted. All of our Broccoli earlier in the Winter is done.
And then here I have some Brussel Sprouts; this is from early, early last Fall. We planted
and Brussel Sprouts take a long time to grow. They survived our Ice Storm and they slowly
coming along here as you can see hopefully they will be ready to harvest in another month
or so. And then here is actually some Cilantro that also survived the Ice Storm and it is
very slowly growing but it is coming along pretty nicely, We got a short row there of
it.
And then of course we have our Garlic we planted several months ago, doing just fine. Coming
along and as soon as it starts to warm up the Garlic and Shallots will start growing
much quicker.
So , thanks for watching, there's just a quick recap of whats going on in our Vegetable Garden
Beginning of our Spring Garden. Winter is pretty much over pretty soon here for us.
Coming up is planting our potatoes I have already planted some Lettuce seeds also out
in the Garden so that will be coming up fairly soon. Potatoes probably in about two more
weeks We are going to get those cut and the eyes sprouting in a warm spot. Check out my
video on that if you want to learn how to grow potatoes. So thanks for watching and
Happy Gardening in 2014!
