Hi everyone I am happy to meet you virtually.
I am Dr. Jarralynne Agee, your instructor for your online class.
It is my pleasure to get to work with you this semester.
We will focus on how these topics impact our world academically and personal as well as socially and culturally.
We are going to be discussion a lot of topics in a large class and I am looking for a good discussion with you.
First, things first! There are some technology requirements that you will need.
You must have the following technology.
1. Internet Explorer(PC) or Mozilla Firefox (Mac)
2. A valid email address
You need your email address online at Peralta Passport system where all registration and university correspondence is directed.
I also need your email address on our class website which is emerritt.org. This is where you will receive information from me about the class.
I’d like to stay in touch with you so it is very important to keep both of those sites updated with your correct email.
3. Flash plug-in for videos
4. A Sound card.
If you are watching this and everything is working fine then you probably have everything you need.
I post links to videos on youtube and PowerPoint presentations and sometimes there is sound with those items so I want you to be able to access all of the course information.
Here is what you need to know about the COURSE SETUP AND REQUIREMENTS
Both the Midterm and Final Exam will be Multiple choice and will count for the final 30% of your grade.
Position Paper
You will have one, 4-7 page paper on a topic relevant to this class and that paper will be worth 20 percent of your grade. You can view the topics online now.
QUESTION: How do we participate in this ONLINE ENVIRNOMENT?
Our forums are the way that we communicate and the way that I give you credit for attendance.
Your job is to post to the forum each week that equals your Online Participation.
You get credit for Online Participation meaning that for each forum that you post to you will receive 1 point for a total of 10 points or ten percent of your grade, which is significant.
Each week we will have Group Forum Lead
Each student will lead a discussion about the topic of week which will count for 20% of the grade.
Pick a topic that is interesting to you. You may ask questions about gender differences for Human Sexuality for example.
Make it interesting, funny, engaging or something that you feel naturally interested in, relate your question to the course material.
DO NOT pick something that you have negative passionate emotions around.
There are more things that the GROUP LEAD Must do:
Group Forum Leads (Formerly Group chat): Forum discussions (20 points)
Each week will have between 4-6 students as Group leads
These group leads will lead the class in a discussion about the topic
These group leads will post other content as well, including other websites and definitions in our class glossary.
You can find more information about this on our class webpage which actually is the perfect segue to tell you to go to our website and look around.
Thank you so much for viewing this video online.
The next step is to go to www.emerritt.org and join out class online.
If you have any questions you can email me at jagee@peralta.edu.
There is more information about how to get started with class with our online orientation link that is on the first week of our class webpage.
I am looking forward to working with you online and I am happy that you are in this class.
