You've decided to go into business for yourself and by yourself and you've heard that you
can do business as a sole proprietorship. Hello, I'm Robert Todd and I'm here to answer
the question how do I file a sole proprietorship? Well the law with regard to sole proprietorships
is going to vary from state to state and so you may want to check your particular state
statutes governing sole proprietorship. But generally when you do business as a sole proprietorship,
you're not required to file anything that indicates that you're a sole proprietorship.
Instead, you still have to make sure that if you're doing business under a fictitious
name that you comply with the state statute that governs filing a fictitious name and
you still have to make sure that you are obtaining the appropriate licenses and permits in your
particular state and location where you're doing business and perhaps one of the best
ways to do that is to contact the local office of the small business administration where
you're doing business and they'll provide you with assistance. I'm Robert Todd and thank
you for watching.
