Erik: What’s your advice on how to best support a spouse during a period of extended
family illness?
Andrew: You have to just be there, prioritize. During a challenging family time you we put
family first, we put each other first and our families first even ahead of these important
business things that we’ve been talking about today and by doing that we were able
to be there for each other, providing comfort and knowing that we were going to get through
it and get through it together, being able to work through something together makes it
a little more reasonable.
Erik: What was it like to think about what might happen and how you might act when you
haven’t faced something like this verses going through it together?
Andrew: You know, no one thinks what would happen if a member of my family got sick but
if you did think about it you’d say, ‘Well, I’d like to think that I’d be strong and
resilient and deal with it with strength and maybe even a little sense of humor.’ for
example, to keep things light every once in awhile. And when we went through it, I think
we dealt with it with strength and an occasional joke to keep people laughing, so similar to
how you would envision it.
