My name is Sarah, I teach Year 2 and I’ve been teaching for nine years.
I’ve never done any acting before so this is a really good experience for me. There’s
a lot of work behind the scenes that you don’t realise, it’s really opened my eyes to the
stuff that goes on that you don’t see.
The opportunities that I offer children in my class are exposure to technology, and exposure
to technology early. I believe that equips them with skills for the twenty first century
and for their future.
At my school, Settlers Primary, I was running an iPad initiative. What an iPad can do, and
I guess that’s my device of choice in the classroom, is it can allow certain children
to reconnect with their learning because kids get excited about learning and they have fun.
I think I like teaching reading the best. A few of the children I get in Year 2 that
are your high need type boys often come in and you can’t even put them on a test and
then by the end of the year they walk out of the door and they’ve come so far. I also
love seeing the look on their face when they realise they can do this, the books are fun
and they’re not scary just because you can’t read them, it’s all about just giving it
a go and I’ll help them do that.
Seeing a child walk into my class that maybe didn’t like school and seeing him leave
inspired and passionate about learning is why I come back every day.
