Hi, I'm Tristan McCauley from Lucky Seven Tattoo, and I'm here to talk to you about
the dangers of piercing a belly button. First and foremost, you want to make sure that you,
the shop you're getting pierced at is a reputable shop; they're maintained by a local health
department or something of that nature. You never want to do it at home by yourself. You
want to make sure that you're havin' it done by somebody that knows what they're doin'.
That way, you have a better chance of not screwin' yourself up. Another thing; you want
to make sure that all the tools, the needles, and the jewelry are all prepackaged and pre-sterilized.
Dirty jewelry, dirty utensils can lead to an infection, and in the navel it's very painful,
it's irritating, and it just all around sucks. Another problem that people have with a piercing
is because of where it's at. It's in your stomach which is basically the hinge of your
body, and it usually takes a bit longer to heal because of that and some people just
get irritated by that. Another thing you get, that is a problem is taking your shirts on
and off. It can get caught on the bottom and pull upwards, or it can get caught on the
top when you're puttin' it on and that will tear a little bit. Another problem is sweat.
When you sweat it gets in the piercing. It can irritate it. You want to make sure you
wash it really well if you sweat. The best jewelry to use for it is a curved barbell
like this or a belly jewel. This lessens the chance of irritation. It doesn't move very
much from side to side or up and down, so there's less chance of an irritation. But
these are just some of the problems that some people have with belly piercings.
