Hi, my name is Simran Bir and I am a basketball player
and future nursing student at Douglas College. My strength as a player is
that, obviously my shooting ability. That's why I got recruited
in the first place and I pump up my team
really well. the keys to having a good shot is that you have to have balance
you have to have your feet set. Your eyes and elbows have
to be lined up and you have to have follow through.
Before game, I like to listen to my pre-game music
playlist and I like to
come in an hour before the rest of the girls do and work on my shot
one of the best experiences I've had
on being in this team is Provincials. We came in second in Provincials we upset
the number one team in the tournament that was definitely a huge
experience in my life. My hearing impairment is that I have a mild to moderate disability
I've had the hearing impairment since I was born so I've been living
with it through with my entire life. I wear hearing aids in a
classroom situation but when it comes onto the court, I don't wear my hearing aids
so it's definitely a lot different. The biggest way that I deal with
my hearing impairment is that I lip read and
I've been thankful for the support and patience from my team
and coaches. My long-term plans for basketball is that I'd keep playing
while I'm studying at Douglas College and to
hopefully play professionally after I graduate
