Hi, this is Gary Zyer for Expert Village. Let's talk more about scoring and the many
different bonuses in Gin Rummy. We saw how to score each hand, but after how many hands
does the game end? There are obviously many options when playing, but following the standard
rules play continues until one player reaches a hundred points or more. But, that person
is not necessarily declared the final winner. There are several bonuses that are now applied.
The first bonus is the game bonus, awarded to the person who reached a hundred points
first. The game bonus is worth a hundred points. If the loser failed to win even one hand during
the entire game, then the winner's game bonus is equal to two hundred points instead of
one hundred. The next bonus is called a line bonus and is given to both players for each
hand they won. This bonus is worth twenty points for each hand. Let's see how these
bonuses affect the final score. A person may have won a lot of hands throughout the match
and only received a few points because he won them by knocking. But, since he won many
hands and he's receiving a twenty point bonus for each hand, in the end he could wind up
with more points, even though he wasn't the first one to receive a hundred points and
receive the hundred point game bonus. If player A had a final score of two hundred and fifty
and player B had a final score of two hundred and twenty five, then player A would win by
twenty five points. And if each point was worth a dollar, player B would owe player
A twenty five dollars.
