Sound and Music Hello! My name is Jason Beach, and in this
screencast I’m gonna show you how to add music and sound effects to your iMovie project.
Now, this process hasn’t changed since iMovie 09. You can still access it by clicking on
the musical note located underneath your preview window. So when I click on the music note,
it gives me access to all of the music and sound effects I have on my machine. So this
is my iTunes library, as you can see it’s giving you a preview of all the music you
have, as well as your Garageband libraries, you can actually create your music there,
and then bring it into your iMovie. You also have access to iLife sound effects, and these
are great sound effects, and this is an easy way of adding a new dimension to your movie
by including nice sounds. So if you have a part in a movie where your student is doing
a traffic broadcast, it’s always nice to bring in a real traffic sound effect(?). You
also have access to iMovie Sound Effects, so it again gives you more control and more
realistic sound to add in later. Now you also have access to music. Now, iPhoto has a great
theme selection, but if you notice if I were to type in “Randy Newman,” you cannot
find “Randy Newman” from the iMovie. But if you wanna use the song, “You’ve got
a Friend in Me,” which is in iPhoto, what you’re gonna have to do is simply open up
iPhoto, create a slideshow, and then from your themes list choose the music, and again
I’m gonna scroll down and find Randy Newman, “You’ve got a Friend in Me,” and then
you simply just have to drag and drop it into your movie project. Again, you cannot find
this song from doing a search within iMovie, you actually have to open up iPhoto to get
access to this theme music. So I’m just gonna drag and drop that in, and then when
I’m finished I’m gonna go ahead and close out my iPhoto library. So here’s a preview
of music in the background of my movie. Notice that it fills the green area in the back,
and it’s two minutes and three seconds long, so when I press the spacebar to preview you’ll
see a preview of the movie. So that’s how you add sound to your iMovie project. To add
a sound effect, it’s the same process. You just simply choose a sound effect to use,
let’s say for example I want to use an owl sound or a dog bark, I can actually just click and
drag and drop that into my video clip, and notice that it adds a green layer as well.
So the dog bark will appear right here. So it’s that easy to add sound and music to
your iMovie project.
